Native American $1 Coin Act ...
The Native American $1 Coin Act also stipulates that the Sacagawea Dollar will get edge incused lettering, to include the following inscriptions: date of issuance, E Pluribus Unum, and In God We Trust. Although the bill doesn't specifically call for the mint mark to be on the edge (or anywhere else).
Section 4 of the bill reads as follows:
"In order to remove barriers to circulation, the Secretary of the Treasury shall carry out an aggressive, cost-effective, continuing campaign to encourage commercial enterprises to accept and dispense $1 coins that have as designs on the obverse the so-called 'Sacagawea design'."
Sacagawea Reverse
The bill doesn't require that any particular reverse types be used, leaving those decisions to several committees it names, but it does offer a few suggestions for people and events that should be commemorated, including:
* Creation of the Cherokee written language
* Existence of the Iroquois Confederacy
* Chief Massasoit of the Wampanoag
* The Pueblo Revolt
* Olympic Champion Jim Thorpe
* General Ely S. Parker, who headed the Bureau of Indian Affairs
* Navajo "code talkers"
The bill states that other topics and persons besides these may be honored, but if a person is to appear on the reverse, the design must be executed in such a manner as to prevent the appearance of a two-headed coin.

<< <i>I do believe the push is on to eliminate the dollar bill...... the back room decision has been made. The machinations are in place. Soon, very soon...... Cheers, RickO >>
I think the push is get collectors to buy more of these things from the mint. They are also create seignorage for the mint which results in an artificial reduction in the National Debt.
If you want more coin to really circulate, you produce one boring design that no one wants to collect and stick with it. That way the coins in circulation stat in circulation.

If they take all that text off the faces and put it on the rim it will only constitute further desecration of a brilliant design.
