Ebay,Do You Or Don't You?

Remember when Ebay first got into the coin business,How many of you went nuts like i did, on the computer day and night just to bid on coins ,coins i needed, easy way to buy, etc. Now thanks to this forum and other venues to smarten you up,how many times do you now participate. As much as before? Occasionally,or very seldom. For me i still look, but i can't remember the last time i bought any coins on the site.

I buy periodically and sell daily. My store eCoinquest as provided me with a way to sell many of my high grade moderns.
eBay could improve with there service and security but other than that I am pleased with the way eBay has changed the coin collecting field.

there are plenty of good, honest folks on Ebay and a great many of them come right from this board. Nothing but positive experiences buying/selling with the good people on here.

Seldom. I usually just bid on the live auctions (Heritage, Bowers and Merena, Stacks, etc.)

I have only ever bought 2 coins from Ebay...I look often, just never usually find anything worth buying...although the last few weeks I have bid on a couple of nicer coins...maybe some better material is coming out.

I bought PCGS graded coins quite often on Ebay and always received nice, correctly graded, pleasing coins.

I look allot to see what the going price range is for coins I need compared to what the price guilds say. I buy a few but not allot. Since I joined here I would say its 30% E-bay and 70% from forum members. It has gotten harder to pick up a nice coin out there without getting into a bidding war and paying way more then you need for a coin.

I still buy on ebay, mostly proof sets and slab coins. In fact just got the 1992s prestige set for $37 not more than 10 minutes ago.

I search just as much as I always have, but don't buy nearly as much as I used to. There seems to be less material showing up that I'm interested in, and when it does show up it's going for stupid money.

I joined eBay in 1998 after being away from collecting for nearly 15 years. Just like BIGJAYVEE, I went nuts! I couldn't believe all the coins available although the numbers were tiny compared to the eBay of 2007. I was only a poor grad student collecting XF and AU Lincolns so the money was insignificant compared to the high mint state grades, but I naturally got burned on a few auctions that did not include images.

None the less, I picked up some incredible deals back then since that period predated the Registries. I still purchase from eBay on occasion, but only a few times per year.

I've determined there are only a small handful of sellers you can trust as
far as descriptions on raw coins go. That said, I don't buy as much ebay
stuff anymore, because most of it (the raw stuff) is crap.

    Live and learn.

I couldn't stomach the ebay/paypal fees so now I sell mostly on the smaller auction sites with zero or low fees. Sometimes I find a deal on the smaller sites since there are not as many people looking.

I buy and sell on eBay. I haven't sold any coins yet, though. I will only buy slabbed NGC or PCGS, and an occasional ANACS. When it comes to raw coins, I prefer to physically inspect raw coins, but if I buy any raw coins online, I'll only by from Stacks or Bowers and Merena. But I love going to live coin auctions. Several months ago I picked up a sweet looking 1993 Prestige set at a local live auction for $27.50 and a nice EF 1832 Cap Bust for $110.

I have my "searches" on ebay that I check daily.

I don't think I have even bought a coin from there this year. I still look just in case a coin shows that I am interested in.

eBay mails me daily with coins that meet my search criteria. About once a month I see something I am interested in. I started looking there about 10 months ago and have only purchased 20 coins.

I only buy thu ebay, I am disabled and do not get to shows except on rare occasion. I tried the a few dealers in the area but when I went in asking for nice PCGS PQ Morgans, one brought me commons in NGC holders. Then on the 4th lot he finally brought out what I was looking for. A week later I tried to upograde one coin and he was not intereted in a trade in. He lost a lot of coin sales because he just wanted to sell to me not deal with me. So I buy from Ebay, Always make sure there is a return policy. I have had some dogs and some great surprises.

I buy a lot of modern stuff that's been graded by PCGS that goes for less than $5 + shipping. I then take it to a local flea market coin shop and sell for double the money - generally. I'm way ahead, lets put it that way.

    I have also sold stuff.

I looked once for about 45 minutes seven years ago. Saw a lot of c**p, nothing that interested me, and haven't been back since. Ditto re Teletrade.

Bought a relatively pleasing looking NGC PL Morgan on Ebay---when it arrived it had one of the most monstrous obverse cameos I've ever seen on a Morgan (and I've seen a lot). Stonce cold black and white from every angle. So that was a sweet deal, and it's still one of my favorite coins.

Many great sellers on Ebay with nice inventory.

i spend a few hours minimum every day searching ebay for coins. if nothing else, it is a great research tool, it becomes very clear what coins are actually scarce and what ones can be bought on any given day of any given week.

I'm very surprised that anyone wouldn't avail themselves to the opportunities that Ebay provides for purchasing coins. I can certainly understand shying away from the raw coins, but for graded coins Ebay is the coin equivalent of a discount store. Why pay the juice to an auction hose (unless you're buying high-end coins) when you can buy on ebay and get credit card protection via Paypal, too?

I "windowshop" ebay daily, and watch quite a few items to see what they are selling for but I don't buy a lot of coins there. Every once in a while I'll pick something up from someone who lists stuff with ebay on BST, but I would much rather buy on the board itself. I also collect MPC's and do pick up an occasional XF/AU piece, but mostly just watch. I have just recently just started watching TT and Heritage auctions also and plan on joining Stacks one of these daysimage

For buying ... eBay is good
For selling... eBay is hot and cold
    Edit to add:

I still buy stuff all the time on ebay- there are two collecting projects I'm working on that don't require large sums of money per purchase, and I find many cool deals on ebay for those. As far as nice quality pl morgans and bust halves, I find fewer and fewer items that are nice enough quality for me..
