Establish an audit team to audit the grading services. Any service that passes the audit get's their logo. If they do not pass, the TPGs would/could be fined or some other penalty.

What would the audit be looking for?

What authority does the ANA have to fine a TPG?

Tweak the confidentiality agreement to only apply to it to matter where executive session is required by the by-laws (such as personnel and disciplinary matters). Any matter that isn't required to be under executive session because of legitimate sensitivity should not put a gag on the directors.

I bet more than a few people will say "Fire Executive Director Cipoletti".

    No doubt, and that's unfortunate.

BTW, when is his contract up?

Another thing: It's an increasingly virtual world, and the ANA should more aggressively leverage technology to bring more of Colorado Springs to the membership, rather than the requiring the membership to be in Colorado Springs to access many of the rights and benefits of ANA membership. I know that's not cheap...but neither are two museums on either coast.

I do not think that the new board will fire anyone immediately. I sincerely hope that they will sit down and try to correct some problems that have popped up.

IMHO, the confidentiality agreement should go.

Any board member that discusses personnel or disciplinary matters with someone that is not on the board or who is not directly involved in that particular situation, should be admonished not to do so again and disciplined more severely if it should happen again. Anything else that a board member wishes to discuss with a member, he should be able to do so.

I am sure that this new board has specific fiscal questions that they will need addressed, so that they will be able to make qualified decisions on the ANA's future.

I am optimistic that there will be harmony in the ANA again.

On another note, I am quite disappointed that so few ballots were returned.

We have to get the membership more involved.

I know I'm just a kid, but if the ANA membership is anything like the membership of our coin club, the people are so old, and feel they already did their part, they don't care what happens right now as long as they get donuts at the end of the meeting.

Clearly, NOTLOGICAL has made a superb, MS68 evaluation.

I would like to state for the record that there are more than a few 60yo and better, some actually closer to 80 that care quite a bit about the future of numismatics.

If all they cared about was the donuts, then the hobby would have faded away. That has not happened and will not happen in my lifetime.

You can take that one to the bank.

Notlogical comments are right on the mark. Probably not the first thing the new board should do but I think the most important thing the new board should do is to brainstorm how to increase ANA membership. Since the start of the states quarter program in 1999, the ANA has increased its membership by, I believe, 10%. In other words, during the greatest numismatic boom of at least the last 40 years, the ANA's membership has increased by about 1% per year. In my humble opinion, that's pitiful. So, I'd like to see ziggy29's suggestion carried out: Use the Internet to make membership more valuable. In my view, that's signficantly more important than establishing new museums on each coast....

Send Russ and I the donuts then.....he needs them and I just like them image

That said (and I expect overnight delivery, for free, as I don't like stale donuts), Mark is right in his post above this. Your (since I am not an ANA member since I refused to join while those people were in office...and am still not convinced I want to join as I think Stuppler was part of the problem and he is Prez) "new" leaders need to focus on getting more involvement from the folks who aren't as active, for whatever reason.

Maybe they just need to be reached out to. Maybe they want to be involved or heard. Whatever, an actual attempt needs to be made.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Cliff Mishler told me directly that if elected at the first board meeting, he will make a motion to initiate a financial audit for the previous five years while placing Cipolletti on Administrative Leave until the audit is finished.

It is my opinion that if this is passed, and I believe it will be passed 7-2 I expect Cipoletti to resign within a week.

Edited for poor writing: initial post read as though the comment about Cipoletti resigning was made by Mishler. It was not. That is my opinion.

While I do fit the "old" criteria, unfortunately donuts are no longer an allowable indulgence. Too much trans fat. And, strangely, I made that decision without government intervention.

Presumably this didn't happen as a result of official ANA business and thus he can't be kicked out per the confidentiality agreement for spilling that...

I think the resounding wins of Mishler, Krause and Rochette sent an unmistakable message, above and beyond just who won and who lost. IMO, these three were seen as the main standard bearers of challenging the status quo, and they had the highest vote totals.

Steve, my post was poorly written. Cliff told me back in March what his motion would be at the first meeting if elected. The part about the vote and Cipolleti resigning is my opinion of what will likely occur. I am going back to edit my post to make it clearer.

    Donuts?

Did someone say DONUTS??? I'm on my way.

When and where is the next meeting?

(Seriously, we have the same problem out here. One club I used to be a member of actively *discouraged* younger members from joining. But they *did* serve donuts and coffee.)

Raise the money to have the Smithsonian and ANA coins displayed in Washington and San Francisco, Old Granite.

To have the rarest of all coins hidden at the Smithsonian is a Joke. Have a traveling road show between the two sites featuring the best of the best. My guess is it would take a long time to show ‘em all.

I guess by "donuts" I meant some people are more happy with what they have done and are more interested in what they can get instead of what they give any more. Does that make sense? image

That was my first thought when I read the title of this thread. I also agree that the ANA should work toward having many of the hidden Smithsonian coins displayed at the Old Mint Museum in San Fransisco, sponsored by ANA. The ANA does not need to open more museums of their own. I also think the ANA should revise their grading standards so that they're more detailed, and then strongly publicize them. I would also like to see ANA classes be offered at other large shows besides just the ANA shows. I'd love to be able to take the ANA grading class at Long Beach!

I have heard rumors that the ANA financial condition is worse than reported and the reasons for that are rather disturbing. I better
shut up now before I say something I regret.

I hope our people lobby congress and the senators or whoever is in charge of the mint and takes IMMEDIATE action to close the floodgates before the fabric of our numismatic society is shredded to NOTHING. It's in dangerous territory as we type !
