Viewing lots of coin images makes one an expert...

at coin images. Viewing lots of coins in person can make one an expert at coins. Please do not confuse the two.

I see quite a few people praise or dismiss a coin solely on the basis of the image. One even told me that a crusty VF gold coin looked "shiny" on the basis of a low-end scan.

It's nice to have attractive coin images, but it is even nicer to have attractive coins.

    Yeah, you might be right. But a collection of nice images can cost a lot less than nice coins and they score the same in the Registry.image

    I totally agree! So many people here(and on the web in general) think they know how to grade just from looking at all the ebay auction pictures. I think this why I can go to most any coin show and cherry pick stuff that others miss- like those 48-D kennedy's I got for $30 each last week.
