I'm being reminded of the first day of trading after some dot-com stocks IPO'd around 1999.

  • Well that one auction is a major standout.

All the other ones were at $599.99 or $579.99. I saw that one last night and was really scratching my head since there were several other auctions for Martha 300+ cheaper. Stupid is as stupid does as they say. I just hope my order comes in and the price really goes that high consistently.

My thoughts exactly on that particular auction

Why would a shill bid be in play here?

The item sold with only one bid.

It would be a stupid shill bid because the seller still pays and if it's a shill bid gets nothing in return. i don;t get it on this one!

It's an "investment" in trying to establish an artificially high aftermarket value.

The next couple of weeks will show whether these are wanted or not. Too early to make any real determination if there is a collector base for these, but always hoping they will soar.
  • He did great!

    Shill Bid?!! LOL!

I just can't understand why anyone here denegrates an honest seller making a profit.

I agree completely on the 20th Anniversary silver sets. Everyone had ample opportunity to buy them.

But profiteering against some poor schmuck who may have been in a meeting, or on an airplane, or any number of things and was TOO late (because of all the flippers hoarding product) even though he came in only a few hours late is another matter.

IMO, as always, and your mileage and moral compass may vary.

Ziggy, I feel the same way....AS LONG AS IT IS A "POOR SCHMUCK"

However, if it is one of the TV hypesters that is trying to get as many as they can, like with the 20th annv sets, then I say "Let them pay through the nose!" image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I think these limits and low mintage caps are playing right into the hands of those sleazoids on the home shopping channels.

I suspect they are as much behind the quick sellout as anyone. If they can just block some guy from having access within *hours* of the product being made available, so they can screw him backwards and twice on Sunday, may be legal and it may be good capitalism but (IMO) poor business ethics.

I still think they probably had all their employees buy the max on company credit cards.

Wait until these things show up on HSN or CoinVault in MS70/PF70 slabs (I'll leave the TPG to your imagination) for $1k or some crazy price. You know it will happen, and then peoplw will head off to EBay or wherever and pay silly money...

I'm just hoping my measly order for 1 Unc MW got in there....image
Rufus T. Firefly: How would you like a job in the mint?

Chicolini: Mint? No, no, I no like a mint. Uh - what other flavor you got?

    image
  • i bet those people on ebay that sold for 500.00 will be emailing the buyers and saying.

"the mint cancelled my order, therefore you don't need to pay". So they can resale it now for 999.99.

Just like an email i received from a seller that i bought 5. Said mint cancelled his order.. YEA RIGHT !!! lol...oh well. i can't force the guy to ship it to me for 505.00 ....nothing i can do.

Can't you file a non-performing seller complaint against him? Yeah, it won't get you the coins, but it is *something* you can do...

[Edit to add: This is a good example of what Russ often says: pre-sales are sleazy.]

We're not talking about food during a famine, or water during a drought. Coins are a discretionary purchase, not a necessity of life. If these buyers want to pony up multiples of issue price for these that's their voluntary decision.

Although I will say that if these flippers had any stones they'd sell this stuff at low opening no reserve and let the market decide.

I liked yours too! "Bingo I think it was", in response to the mention of a Shill. I like you guys with 10,000 posts, short little one liners are easy to read, except they clog up the boards, libel other posters, and overall convey nothing. By the way, not that it matters but my Shill paid me through Paypal, and I left feedback, but it's OK I'm just increasing my investment to help others...P.S. I like those little emotion thingees and would accept that as your formal apology!
