Do you care whether or not a dealer is a member of PNG?

I've seen several thieves with a PNG membership. Also some of the most honest dealers I know don't belong.
Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
My most selfish reason is that I can force a PNG member into binding arbitration, should we have a dispute. I can tell you from painful experience that this matters, big time.

On the same token, it's nice to legislate and hold a candle to our own.
When buying a coin or selling a coin, it would be better to be affiliated but it isn't a requirement in our society. I suppose the higher dollar the coin, the more protective measures are necessary. Should I join ? I'm a powerseller of widgets on ebay only.
Do sharks lurk in muddy water ? If joining the PNG gives me a thumbs up in the community will I sell more brown wheaties ?
I'm just curious

PNG....and I stayed screwed. AT least you have a shot with PNG.
While there may be some with debatable ethics (past or present) in that organization, they do have a way of monitoring themselves....."or they put it to sleep for a long time."
YES. A resounding YES. Does it really matter if a dealer is a member of NGC, PCGS, FUN, ANA, ICTA, NSDR, etc? Will any of those protect you and your money? Only 3 letters might help get your money back, and they aren't ANA. Any scammer on ebay can pile on a list of organizations in about a month, all with no teeth.

I appreciate your input on this issue.

Really? Can anyone here cite a single example of a retail customer getting any relief with the help of the PNG-
The truth is, , Numismatic Consumer Alliance has done more for the "customer" in the short time it has been around than PNG has done in it's entire existence. Having nice letterhead and logo is great but all that matters in the end are results-
So aside from dealer disputes can anyone cite some examples of the "customer" getting protection from the PNG.
The PNG means well but results matter, not nice looking ads.
Let's have the PNG tell us exactly what they have done in helping customers that have been wronged get relief.
Anyone?
Like I said results matter-

If they act like those tv guys hyping stuff it's over!
I guess for a raw coin that I did not know enough about to buy in the first place PNG might matter more LOL I typically don't count on forcing a refund based on the signs on the wall.
To date, I've only been dissapointed with one PNG dealer. There was nothing to raise a complaint about, just that all of the others I've dealt with have been top notch and very ethical.

Someone who remembers the PNG of old. They let just about anyone in now, including guys who can't grade. So my answer is no.

<< <i>I care to a certain extent. A dealer's PNG relationship gives the customer some protection if a dispute arises and being a member can't hurt a dealer's reputation. On the other hand, there are many good dealers who are not members of the PNG. >>
PNG membership is a plus in my book - especially when I'm considering buying an expensive coin.
If PNG represents a committment to enhanced ethics in the field, then it at least stands for something positive.
It is sad to me that the coin dealing universe has such a shaky ethical foundation. Even those whose ethics are suspect by me, pine about the disreputable nature of their competitors.
If confidence of the public were enhanced the business side of Numismatics would be on a sounder footing. There is a window of oppotunity, any takers?

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
