Actually that is a Ruger Security Six with a Colt Python barrel on it. More commonly called a cougar; I really don't have or need one on my nightstand yet, but you never know.

RACC I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
I'm sorry, but that is just ridiculous. Why on Earth would you want to own those? And please don't say, "because I have the right to own them.
Those?? A Glock 17 and an LEO Rem. 870 folder. What is so insane about these weapons? But, lets see, first it is my right, second I train with these guns for when I go overseas to defend our freedoms, as these are issued to me by a gov't agency, and third, these guns are exactly what I feel I need to defend myself in my house.

No, Joe, actually my nightstand looks like his does too and has an ash tray like Russ, a lamp, the remote and the Good Book. I truly hope you never rue the day you look back and say, "Ya know, I really should have protected my Home & property better. I never would have believed this could happen to me."
Bad things DO happen to good people everyday Joe. And when they do they usually happen fast and without warning.
As free Americans, way too often we take for granted the fact that we ARE Free and that these freedoms have been paid for by the blood of countless past that served our country.
Just remember, desperate people do desperate things and there are a lot of crazies in the world, Joe. Kids kill kids just to "see what it's like." There are people that would just as soon shoot you for your shoes, because they think you looked at them in a "funny" way or just because they feel like it. The World isn't what it used to be.
Just suppose .... Nah, let's just hope the unimaginable never happens to you Joe. You seem like a nice guy.
I hope no one ever brings harm to you or any member of your family. When things go down they go down fast and unfortunately you had better be ready because they won't wait for you to go and get a gun or a weapon to defend yourself, your wife, your CHILDREN. This kind of stuff happens sadly every day - somewhere. In fact, in the time it took me to type this can you even fathom how many people just died?
To each his own. If someone comes busting thru my door I'll be ready and all I'll have to do is reach over.
I'm sorry, but that is just ridiculous. Why on Earth would you want to own those? And please don't say, "because I have the right to own them." >>
What if the phone wakes you up in the middle of the night and in your groggy sleep-wake state you accidently grabbed the pistol instead? I think I'd keep the weaponry away from Alarm clocks, and telephones that may go off suddenly in the middle of the night when our natural instinct is to grope blindly for the disruptive noise makers and shut them off.
Anyway, to answer the OP, I only have one nightstand and beneath the dust there is a television sitting upon it.

I understand that you guys feel like this is the right thing to have next to you while you sleep. I don't. Using the arguments you have given, I'm surprised you don't have more stuff...like a flamethrower, a couple grenades, etc.
Anyway, to each his own. I personally don't undestand why guns are legal to own. There's just way too many stupid people (not you guys!) who own guns that don't know how to use them. It just seems like we'd all be better off if getting caught owning a gun would result in lifetime in prison.
The other day, I noticed that there is an ever-growing organization that is dedicated to making it completely illegal to smoke ANYWHERE in Calfornina (my home state.) I just don't understand. Smoking a cigarette would be a crime, but having a gun would not. HUH?

Yeah, that is well thought out, take away guns from law abiding citizens and leave them defenseless against criminals because we know all criminal would hand in their firearms once they were made illegal. What are you going to do when more people die in car crashes because the deer population explodes due to a lack of hunters? That is just one example.

Why don't you look up and see how much the violent crime rate went up after England and Australia banned firearms. Them look up the violent crime rate in Switzerland, where everyone has a issued Sig rifle, then try to defend you point. Oh, and California, that tells me everything I need to know.
