What's on Your Nightstand?

DentuckDentuck Posts: 3,812 ✭✭✭
This post was inspired by Bethanne Patrick, who does a semi-regular feature for Publishers Weekly called "What's On Your Nightstand?"

What numismatic book(s) are you currently reading? As a followup, where/when do you typically read numismatic books (e.g., bedtime, weekend, beach)?

At the moment, it's Breen, Crosby, and the COAC on American tokens. All three are my prep work for an upcoming Numismatist article.

I wonder if, based on that hint, anyone can guess what the column will be on?

One of the Bowers' "Companion" books-- although lately I've spent more time with something called "Reluctant Voices" which details the recollections of children during the Civil War.

A cure for insomnia? image I read one piece of quoted legislation in Crosby and I'm off to lala land. Edited to add: In case you're wondering, yes, I have The Early Coins of America (which I won in an RYK give away) on the shelf of my nightstand. I still haven't read it through (but I'll get there eventually). image

On my nightstand (an inverted cardboard box on top of another one), I have an alarm clock, a flashlight, and an ipod. My current selection of numismatic literature is QDB's hoard book, but that's on the coffee table by the sofa. My guess as to what JK's next column is on is the Theatre at New York token and Conder tokens as so-called American colonial tokens.

Usually the Numismatist. Too much "World" stuff in that, though. Right now my interest is "Commemorative Coins of the United States, A Complete Encyclopedia, by Q. David Bowers." More info about commems than you should ever need to know.

OK, I can agree with just about everyone.

I have several issues of Coin World and the ANA mag.

I also have a book on New Orleans Gold.

    I also have a 457 magnum.

no, they are not on the night stand. They are in it.

And, yes my wife would not be happy with coin mags, she gets mad enough when I read them and watch tv with her at the same time.

Mine is in a digital touch safe (can be operated in the dark by touch) bolted to the nightstand.

The alarm clock isn't in a safe.

Reading material has been replaced by a laptop.
