2006 20th anniversary set prices
with the current rate of 400+ dollars for the silver set, what do you think of the value in 5-10 years from now. Will it be better to sell now or hold for the long run?

I think part of the reason for the increasing price is because it seems more apparent that the US Mint may have made this a one time deal in regards to the reverse proof eagle. Does not seem to be going to be issued for this year anyways.

Interesting that the gold Reverse Proof is not enjoying as much of a rally as the silver RP.
Also, I don't see the gold RP listed as part of the gold eagle registry sets. Am I missing something?

<< <i>I was *almost* lucky enough to grab one of these (raw, opened) for $400 on eBay yesterday, but the high bidder beat me by a lousy $3 at the last second. Am I bidding too low? The price is so volitile on these lately I never know how much am I supposed to be paying from one week to the next anyway. I only get the Greysheet once a month so I'm clueless as to what the current Bid price is. All I know is the guy in the back of Coin World is paying $380 a piece for them. Is that the going Bid price for them now, or is it even higher? >>
On these, or anything that acts like these are doing right now, I wouldn't go by what someone is paying in the back of a printed magazine nor on Greysheet.
Segoja on these boards is offering $460 for opened sets. That gives you an idea of what they are valued at.
If you are bidding on ebay, then you are already in the right area to see current price trends as well....search on completed auctions. If the trend is up, on price, or if the trend is down on price, then you will be able to see.
These aren't that rare that there is only one or two offered...you can actually get a pretty good feel on current price status by checking ebay.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

about $775-$800
Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
The original mint packaging is worth the most right now if you have a bunch of coins in ms/pr68 holders. In that case I'd crackem and sell them as mint sets BEFORE the coins milk spot. If the raw sets surpass the slabbed 69's by $200 or more I'd crack those so fast you would get whiplash from watching me do it.

<< <i>The slabbed 69/69/69 sets are worth more than the raw sets by about $20-30/set >>
Yeah, but the sad thing is that it cost roughly $50+ to get the 3 coins graded....so, a 69/69/69 set is a loser

Sad truth today is that with the proliferation of PCGS 70s all PCGS 69 bullion and mod commems are losers.
Could you extrpolate on that a tad for me. Greatly appreciated. jws
If you sold a ASE 3pc set raw at $460 you would net more than if you paid the grading fees on a raw set and made 69/69/69 + you are out the time to ahve the coins graded.
That's why they are "losers"
if you happen to hit a 70 then you make some $$$$.
Hopefully that clears it up!

James pretty much covered it.
Simply stated, the grade of 69 no longer will recover the grading cost when the coin is sold. It used to be that you could grade NCLT Ultra Moderns in hopes of hitting the jackpot with a 70, but if you missed and only got 69s you could still make a few bucks or at least break even.
So for people that are anal about their coin sets, that may push the price up a bit for the 69 sets in the future.

I'm thinking about sending in my NCG 69 set for reholder into a muti holder. They look neat and for $15 the extra value seems to be there.
If I were you now, I would hold on to them unopened.

Maybe in 5 years when the 25th anniversary comes along then these will take the back seat.
The '99 silver proof sets were the last "hot" set but now they've been de-throned and prices are starting to slip.
<< <i> I had eight free submissions so grading didn't cost much. >>
Those 8 "FREE" gradings cost you a cool $200; a real waste when you could have had theASE's graded for a mere $14 a pop. Did they include the $10 a coin for the first strike designation with the freebies?
