We will honor the First Day of Issue, but the submission has to meet the following criteria…
Through Bulk
Minimum 100 coins
No minimum grade
Flat rate of $12/coin
The packages they come in (see example below) are sealed, so we do not require that they send the external shipping box. (Customers do need to leave the cover in-tact—if they remove the coins, we will not honor the First Day of Issue.) They will *not* get the post-marked cover back.
If a customer has further questions, please transfer them to Bulk. >>
This message says coins - so it should be 50 sets.
But, they require 100 coins of the same exact type...inlcuding denomination. So if you send in 50 sets, you have 50 of each denom. and they will be refused...or so I was told by bulk
<< <i>What is the reasoning behind splitting up your order of 100 sets? I assume there is some advantage or you want to pay all that extra shipping. >>
I split mine up because at that time pcgs was just beginning to say that they would even slab these and I wanted options. The way its gone lately, you never know who will require the boxes to be unopened or whatever and I might want to sell them in smaller batches than 50.

Yes, the coins have to be the same. In order to get the FDI designation for both the P & D coins of the set, you need 2 bulk orders on two different submission forms. One form with 100 P and the other form with 100 D = 100 coin covers = 200 total coins

So won't the proof sets be nicer coins than these when they come out? They are the same price for 4 proof coins, but not 1st day production. Still just a new guy question.
<< <i>Looks MS 67 or MS68 to me. Sellout imminent?

Hey Bill compared to a MS67 Sac as far as clear fields and strike I'd give it a 66. They do look good, though. Maybe that's completely wrong to compare grades between the two coins though, maybe not. No harm intended.

The proofs probably will be nicer, and the *satin finish* coins found in mint sets, but those are two different coins than the circulation strikes, which so far can only be found in bags, rolls, or these FDCs.
<< <i>It would be very interesting to know what percentage of the 50,000 sets will be sold to board members. I suspect it will be a high percentage.

I would keep it and order 50 more. Personally I think it more a novelty than anything else to have the 1 ONE of....Somebody, however WILL pay a steep premium for it so do not open it and test the waters with it sometime down the road.
I just got some bank rolls and went through them to compare. The covers overall have nicer quality pieces with better centering, fewer dings and scrapes especially around the rim. It would not surprise me if a MS68 was found.

Being a numbers nut and now knowing about the numbered cases of 50 covers, I just canceled and reordered a bunch. I now have 3 cases of 50 coming - instead of the 33, 50, 30, 25, I originally ordered.

Ok, my wife's says she's gonna shoot me, collect the insurance and pay for these coin covers, gone are another 150....at 50, 50, 25, 25 Oh, ya she said if we don't submit these to pcgs, then she says make sure everyone else doesn't offer them for 15.95 with free shipping......
The mint marketers know what they're doing on this one. This is the way to make all Presidential FDI covers wanted. Start the first one with a shortage.
Everyone watches as they climb to over $100 in the secondary. Then no mintage limit on the rest.
If the sales numbers start to die around say the Lincoln release cut off the FDI early like ocean and view nickel and restart the frenzy.
the problem with the cover market is that it is way too thin
when prices move up they are only beaten down by much more supply
there are never enough buyers. this has happened with the deleware and pennsylvania state qtr covers. I know dealers with 100's they had fire sales with......selling at $10 (a 50% loss) just to free up some capital....
dont get too overzealous with these things.......
there are many more buyers for silver and gold eagles.
What many of you might not know or forgotten is what happened to the state quarter FDCs. Both Delaware and Massachusetts sold out and the covers were selling for moon money. Pennsylvania sold out and was moving towards $100 on eBay when the Mint reopened sales of all three. The market collapsed and has never recovered.
Did the mint print a minimum for the State Quarter FDIs in 1999 and then re neg and print more? Does anyone know what type of mintage there was on the State Quarter FDIs?

The ones still on sale by the Mint...100,000 for the first several years, later years reduced to 75,000. The most current one: 35,000. I think they learned their lesson.

When they reopened sales, did they just arbitrarily increase the mintage of those sets or were they just staggering the release of these in order to kill the secondary market?
