WINNERS ANNOUNCED - FIRST POST - New website announced and also TWO $100 giveaways!

RichieURichRichieURich Posts: 8,571 ✭✭✭✭✭
I’ve had “New website coming soon!” in my sigline for awhile, and a lot of forum members have asked, “OK, so where is it?” and I’m happy to announce that my website is up in test and is awaiting a bunch of forum members pounding on it to see whether or not it works. Therefore, I’m requesting forum members’ assistance in testing, specifically I want to see if the website can handle traffic, plus I would like to know if anyone encounters any problems with the website. As an incentive to participate in this effort, I will have TWO $100 giveaways that will be chosen at random in conjunction with the testing to be done from now until 7 PM Eastern time, April 6, 2007. The winners will be announced on the PCGS Forum on April 9. To get to the website, click on the link in my sigline or go to www.richuhrichcoins.com/stage/index.shtml .

Here are the rules:
1. You must be a PCGS Forum member to participate.
2. You must access my website, select any coin in my inventory, and send me an “Inquiry/Request” for that coin. Only the first request from each forum member will be included in the contest. Don’t worry, I’ll know this isn’t a real order unless you specifically tell me that it is.
3. To avoid any appearance of impropriety, my website designer, who knows none of you, will select the two $100 winners, by generating two random numbers based on the total number of entries received.
4. Each of the $100 winners will receive $100 in coin(s) from my website, or $100 credit on any purchase. Said credit can be transferred to any other Forum member if so desired by the winner.
5. Contest winners have until Wednesday, April 18 at 11 pm Eastern time to decide if they want any of the $100 coins listed below. If the winners want credit or another coin, they have until the end of December 2007 to use the credit.
6. What coins can you get for $100? Well, a baker’s dozen of coins, each valued at $100 will be “CONTEST RESERVED” until April 18, and the winners can select any one of these coins. After April 18, any of them not selected by the winners will be for sale. They are as follows and all are pictured on the website.
• 1802 Large cent, Fine but with micro corrosion
• 1828 Large cent, Good-6, N-12, a Rarity-4 coin
• 1834 Large cent, EF with some corrosion, double profile
• 1869 2c piece, repunched date, FS-004, VG details, cleaned, ANACS
• 1917-D Buffalo nickel, 2 feather variety, FS-016.42, VG
• 1917-S Buffalo nickel, 2 feather variety, FS-016.44, Fine+
• 1828 Large Date dime, VG-10/Good-4
• 1825/4 Bust quarter, B-3, VG minus
• 1850 Seated quarter, VG
• 1848 Seated half, Good-6
• 1862 Seated half, VG
• 1898 Morgan dollar, nicely toned obv. and rev.
• 1794/1994 Gallery Mint copy of Flowing hair dollar, “COPY” on rev., Proof

7. Good luck and enjoy the contest!

MY WEBSITE DESIGNER JUST DREW THE WINNERS AND THEY ARE Lathmach and mheffner2. Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to all 112 of you who entered the contest and checked out my website!

Did you run this by Laura?

While nobody on this forum pays more than $50 for a coin, I suppose this giveaway is exempt since no Forum member will be paying for the $100 coin giveaway either! image Oh I kid Laura image

Site looks good to me. I especially love THIS ONE.

Too bad its not the real deal........

Please consider adding this coin to the give-away if I were to happen to win. That would be the perfect fit for my 1853 circ set.

Edit: Oh btw, everything worked fine for me. I did send a "test inquiry" about a Seated Dollar. Congrats on the site.

Clicking on the order/inquire link just spawns your default e-mail program to send them an e-mail. In this case, the e-mail program defined in your web browser is not installed properly. Try opening your e-mail program before you click the link. If you use web-mail, your default installation (Usually outlook express) is just corrupt or not set-up.

I entered a test inquiry from the link on the item and it went smoothly without any glitches.

The green and pink at the top of each page are too bright however. Takes away from the professional appearance of the site.

    Hope this helped.

    Good luck with it.
I just went through and looked at a bunch.

Couple of points....I don't like when websites open the "default email" as I use web email for most things but it defaults to Outlook Express (which is not installed nor configured on this machine) so it won't work. Also, if someone browses from work and home, then the settings are likely different. Would be better to have your webmaster have a form online for it and for someone to just put in their email and name for the information request....just my opinion.

2nd point....and this is just me, I like seeing the smaller pics and clicking on them for the larger ones but I would like to see obv/rev at the same time. They are individualized right now but it would be cool. I don't like to open, back, open, back and then go back and forth. Most of the time, I want to see the whole coin at once. That's what pics are good for image

Now, I am going to copy the email address and then paste it into my hotmail and then send that so I can be entered in the contest image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Test Inquiry sent for the 1922-D 64RD!

The site looks great and is very intuitive. Upon clicking on the url in your sig, the site did take a long-time to load.

All the best on your new venture!

I also had no problems navigating. Also think the Neon color is a little strong.
I like the green and pink though just a little dimmer.

Hi folks, thanks for the replies so far.

Laxmaster92 and Lasvegasteddy: You are entered into the contest. My website person will look into the problem.

Coinman420 and Bochiman: The e-mailing part of this was the most cumbersome part of the design, and a part that I'm not satisfied with. We will be trying to make this better for people using a variety of emailing software. Plus, we want to have a more effective way for people to order more than one coin at a time.

    Pbfloyd: Not gonna happen.

RichardShipp: If you win, you can get that coin, unless someone orders it first.

Aballein, Fastrudy and Keez: I understand the neon colors can be a bit distracting, and unusual for a coin site. However, people that know me know that I like to wear bright colors, usually the brighter the better, and neon has become almost an identifier for me. That's why neon colors are on the site.

IGWT: Please PM me with the coin you were trying to simulate-order. I know how to fix that one. image

Bochiman: I like double-sided pix too. That is more work, and I am married to the official website photographer. Need I say more? image

I was going to say that the times that I've seen Rich in person he's usually wearing these same colors, and I can see now that it was by design.

  • Hi Rich, I sent You an email to enter the contest using the order/inquiry link on the coin. Not sure if that entered Me in the contest or not. The only thing that did not work for Me was the boxes across the top of the site, the all had red X,s in them and would not load. Nice site though will keep You bookmarked and look through Your coins a little closer. The neon colors look good to Me, I thought they would be flashing and blinking by the sounds of some of the comments about being to bright LOL. Thanks Rick
  • thank you for the contest and great site. I see no problem I really like how you have photos of all of the coin and it is easy to navagate.
  • CheeseGuyCheeseGuy Posts: 191 ✭✭
I think I did it right. I sent a request for the 1848 half. Thanks for the opportunity!
I like cheese, notes, and coins. In that order.
  • Couple things I noticed, I am just being honest.

    1. Colors - don't like the neon. It draws your attention away from the reason your there, to look at coins.

    2. Don't like having to click twice on the top navagation bar to be directed to the page.

    3. Don't like programs that use your email, it should direct you to a form, then the website generates the email to you and a confirmation email to the sender thanking them for the inquiry. Not that my site is any good, but here is the form I use for contact us: My Site This could be made simple to just ask name, email and comments. The website should be able to put the subject coin in the email to you.

    4. I would create an email account under your website name. You never know when comcast is going to make you mad enough to cancel. Once you cancel you can't have that email address, unless you keep paying. After a few years of running this site, you will have a few thousand customers all still using your comcast address, what a pain to switch. At least with your own, you can do what you want with it.

    5. Are you going to create a shopping cart, or is everything done manually?

    6. One last point. I would really create a contact us page with a form, not your email address. I made the mistake of putting several email addresses on my site. There are programs that search websites for email addresses and sell them to spammers. I get about 200 a day that get around my spam filters. But I can't crank up the filters because then potential clients don't get through.

I look forward to shopping on your site. Thanks

Also, the colors look fine on my mac, but on the high quality lcd screen for the pc, they are quite vivid. I think once the green contest line and the pink details line on the index page are removed, it will look just fine. For some reason those are what I find distracting. The header will look just fine by itself. Perhaps look at it on different screens as color brightness can vary.

    Rich,

Congrats on the long awaited unveiling of your site, I wish you great success with it.

I've sent in my one and only "inquiry" and it's a very REAL inquiry in regards to one of your Smith pedigreed half dimes. Nothing rare but something that I need and is attainable. I'm really looking forward to having one of Marks coins in my personal collection, hopefully. I'll eagerly await the results.
