What do you like better, your job/profession, your family or collecting coins?

SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 13,018 ✭✭✭✭✭
For me, wife and kids come first.

Placing second is work or collecting coins, depending on the day and whether work is good/bad or collecting is good/bad.

What is best is to have a good day of work and a good day of collecting, both on the same day.

I don't have a job, and my family is all dead or insane, so I'll go with coins.

    My family always comes first....
My profession!? I'm an IT helpdesk monkey. It's kinda fun, but not my passion. So I'd rank coins second. Especially when I can flip the flavor of the month and make a crazy profit.

They're all great, for different reasons

I've got a wonderful family with an beautiful, smart, and understanding wife, and our one year old baby girl. Extended family pretty decent, too. They all come first and foremost.
I'm also fortunate to have a great job doing medical research and developing medicines to help thousands of people, and I'd give up all my coins (if I had to) to be able to do this.
Distant third but nice in it's own way is my interesting accumulation of little round metal disks, of which I'm quite proud, still the collection can't hold a candle to the first two.

Russ, family all dead or insane? What a bummer for you.

Of course, not having others that depend on you can give one the luxury of having minimal expenses, thus a chance at choosing to not work and having free time to do what you love (i.e. coins).

What I like best is people who are nice...i.e. Kind, Caring and Friendly.

This applies to most of my family image ... many (well, at least some image ) of the folks I have met collecting coins... and many of the folks I work with...

The key for me is to surround myself with nice people...I need to be nice myself...a smile is contagious !!!

    Peace...
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

My job allows me to spend so much time at home I (almost) feel guilty. This allows me to spend tons of time with my wife and 4 kids. My job pays enough for me to be rather extravagent (all relative) in my coin obsession.

What Russ fails to mention is that he is responsible for them going insane, at least that would be my "qualified" observation. I know for a fact that he drives me nuts with the majority of his threads on this board.

As for myself, obviously my family, but what else would I say when the wife is hovering around as I type.

That's not what he said. He said that all of his family is either dead or insane.

Russ is clearly part of his family, also.

    Russ isn't dead.

I would have to say family, coins, then work. I love my family and would not pick anything over them (even my beloved St. Louis Cardinals!). I could do without work, however. It gets in the way of the more important things in life. If I didn't have to work to buy the things that I need and want then I would not.

The original question was "like". To be honest it can vary day to day depending on moods and attitude of everyone involved.

I will say "most" of the time it is family, coins and then job.

There are of course times when I would like the family to just disappear for awhile when things are not going so great and just leave me alone with my coins.

Not a PC type of answer but we all have those moments don't we?

    Family by a long shot.

On a good day, work is a heck of a lot more interesting than coins will ever be (I'm a high school teacher).

On a bad day ... I would give anything to be parked at my desk with a bunch of boxes and a 9x loupe.

I know you didn't put this on your list and only one other person said it but I love my health probably more than or as much as anything. Without your health you really don't have much. I have my health now but lost it for a while to cancer and it really gave me a reality check. I also love my family very much. I really love collecting coins and I am addicted to them like a lot of others but I can't believe how far they fell out of favor with me when I got sick.

My family comes in easily at #1, and I think coins/school complement each other. I don't know if I'd want to do coins full-time now, but having a hobby that takes me away from my school work is very, very useful at times.

Family and friends first, coins second and job last. In fact if you increases to any amount of available options, My job will always be last. As you can tell my job sucks- ALOT. In just over a year though i may ditch the job as i will be eligible for retirement in May-2008. I may have to ditch some coins also to make it happen but peace of mind is worth more than my whole coin collection. I don't have to go postal-I am already there. Bob

Work (I'm a Pharmacist, and I love my job because of the patients I have, and because of how they respect me and my staff)

    JRocco:

The question came from....................., my own wandering mind at a moment when I was mentally relaxing on thr forums.

Thought it would be interesting to see what responses were posted. Most put family first and job last with coins in the middle. I wonder if everyone who so responded were telling the complete truth. I suspect that most were, however as one reply pointed out it depends on when you ask [sometimes families can be aggravating and you just want a break from them]. I also liked the additional categories of "health" and "God". Health no doubt is at the top of the list [particularly of those who have had bad health in the past and who really appreciate good health]. For those who believe, "God" also is right at the top of the list.
