<< <i>I am using CoinJP's old icon, but i asked permission first I wouldn't mind if someone used my avatar, but i have to learn how to upload one first... >>
Doesn't bother me a bit though it did confuse me the first time someone did. Last time I noticed it two people were using one of my old ones and they were both using the same one lol.
When I signed up for the forum and looked at the avatars, I felt like I would be using someone else's so I selected the no image option. Someday I'll make one though.
When I first joined, I didn't realize I was actually using someone elses avatar. I think it was ziggys' 1877 IHC....anyway, when I came to the realization it was someone elses coin and clued in on how to upload my own...I did..Leo
Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;
a couple of other folks are using both this gold coin and the reverse of my bust dollar. doen't drive me crazy, I'm rather flattered. I'm used to seeing it once in a while on a post I didn't write, but they post infrequently so not to much confusion here
No one has used the only 2 icons I've ever donned, and doubt anyone ever would, so I really can't say for sure but no, it would not drive me crazy. Confuse me sometimes maybe but not drive me crazy.
There is only one other forum member to my knowledge that uses my avatar, but she keeps such a low profile that I doubt anyone even notices any of her posts.

I've uploaded half a dozen or so icons, and I would only mind someone else using one if it was same one I'm currently using. A couple of people are using older icons of mine and I couldn't care less.
Then there are the ones I made specifically for other users, who haven't gotten around to using them yet....

I have no problem telling the two apart
I didn't make the original image or the resized icon I'm using but I did upload it. I hope the image owner is flattered. No one else is using it yet but I think it would be awesome if people did.

Hmmm...I never really thought that I might be using someone else's icon and it might bother them. I just picked one that I liked and started using it. I have thought about uploading something else since then but just have never gotten around to it and I still like the buff that I use, just wish the background was transparent. I guess I will have to create one in the near future.

<< <i>Perhaps before a member selected an icon it would be nice to have it described as being "in use" and by how many members and for how long.
I'm not sure I would select an icon that had been in use for 5 years by a well-known member if so identified.
Maybe when an icon is in use it should be withdrawn as a possible or open selection- shouldn't be too hard, technically speaking, for PCGS to do this. >>
I haven't picked an icon in a while but, if I remember correctly, the interface for choosing an icon (if you're not uploading one and typically used by new forum members) is pretty horrendous and could use some improvement.
Of course it might be hard to get improvements if the message boards are already a money loser....
<< <i>It bugs me. I also get confused when I see reponses I don't remember typing and then notice it is one of two other people using it. My Avatar is from one of my prized half eagles that I uploaded myself.

Although mine looks the same as yours, it is not. I imaged this coin and uploaded it myself. Actually, I don't know if I uploaded it before or after you started using yours. I don't care that you are using one similar to mine. But I do get a bit confused when I see your posts. I will be imaging another coin soon and uploading it for my use. But it won't bother me if someone thinks it is cool and uses it. I'll just image another coin and upload it, ad infinitum.

Yours does not bother me. There were a couple of people using my exact one which made things confusing.
I always do a double take when I see one of the icons I uploaded used by somebody else. Just to confirm that it was not my posting. Other than that, I don't mind at all.
I noticed mine - the current avatar - some months ago being used by another member. He mentioned that he changed his avatar every so often and allowed me to use this Barber head outline once he no longer used it.
I couldn't happier with this avatar as it encompases most of my collecting interests.

Ok I have looked at all the options on my profile and the help site, What's with the the avatar upload, is it double top secret ??? Can someone please tell me how to upload your own avatar.
on that note, how do you upload a picture to use as a personal avatar. I admit that i'm guilty of using one i found in the list upon joining this forum, but i'd much rather use my own. can someone help me out? thanks
