Does it drive you crazy when other members use your avatar?

RedneckHBRedneckHB Posts: 19,690 ✭✭✭✭✭
Recently there have been 3 or 4 new members who are using my icon. I get confused when I see posts with my icon and I dont remember writing it.imageimage

Perhaps I should just be happy that others deem my icon attractive.image

I can't say I get confused, but it does tick me off, somewhat. My avatar is one of my dog's and it clearly identifies me. I see it as my own, but do understand when you upload the image to the PCGS server it becomes public domain and available. It would be nice however if PCGS made it possible to keep your own uploads private.

  • I used another person's avatar for a while, and there were 3-4 other people using it as well. I couldn't upload mine for almost a month after I joined, then i missed the upload day for 3-4 months in a row. But, I think I would be happy if someone chose my coin.

Even if I had my own unique one it wouldn't bother me.

I've used only two and both were in use and the first users were gracious enough to never say a word about it.

    How could I complain?

Nope. Once uploaded publicly (anywhere) I figure it is fair game.
I do have to do doubletakes sometimes when I see my first one I uploaded (Gold 1oz "Year of the Monkey") as I saw it again today and wonder if that is one of my original posts or someone else nowadays.

I figure it's all cool anyway (though, that is certainly one of the reasons I would NEVER upload any photo that I felt a personal attachment to...me/my kid/family/etc)

I have never uploaded one myself and I have been using the Ohio State flag for quite some time now. If I had uploaded one of my own, I don't think It would bother me if someone else used it image

It bugs me. I also get confused when I see reponses I don't remember typing and then notice it is one of two other people using it. My Avatar is from one of my prized half eagles that I uploaded myself.

I understand that the Avatars are public but one the new people realize a board veteran is using the Avatar they should look for something else, I almost feel like I need to change now.

I recently saw that not only is someone using my current one but another person is using an old one I made and loaded. I think it's kinda cool.
  • Somewhat flattering....My jewelry 1913 S type 1 has been used a couple of times and we even have 1 member who still uses it!

Somebody just started using my old "Blunt" avatar. I guess I should be flattered, but actually I can't see any reason why someone would pick that one.

I wouldn't mind if somebody else uses mine...as long as they don't mind that I put my name on it when I made it...
  • Another member is/was using mine.

It only annoys me because every time I see
it in a thread I think its me.

Other than that I'm ok with it.

I take it as a compliment, although it can sometimes get a bit confusing -- sort of like seeing your reflection in a mirror.

Interesting, as yesterday upon registering, I struggled to pick one of the many avatars that were offered. I kept thing " these all seem to belong to people". I chose the PCGS coin mix that I remember seeing on their welcome book. It looks generic, but until I can find a way to upload a pix of Milo my Boston Terrier, I guess I'm stuck being nondescript.

  • The clichéd phrase, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” was coined, (no pun intended) to somehow validate copying but I usually associate someones longtime used avatar with the person who first started using it. I would really like to see everyone with their own identity. image

I'm using one called "puking pumpkin".I'm new here, and I did wonder about the choices available for avatars. It did seem obvious that these avatars were at some point created by users, not PCGS.I saw a thread where one member congratulates another for their new avatar.I read further, and discovered that the 15 of each month is when a new avatar can be uploaded.I will read further now on this thread to find out when, where, how.Thanksimage
