and I see they have carried on the christmas swap. never forget, we were the first
I also have to say, there aren't many as giving as the folks on this board, back when and today I believe.

I too remember the old board. In 2001 I spent most of my online time at rec.collecting.coins and didn't bother to check in here until the new board had been up for almost three weeks.
"Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity" - Hanlon's Razor
JD4Science was a really good kid. He was like 15 back then. I sent him his first slabbed coin. I think it was an '80 SBA. I remember how excited he was!
The thread with all the pictures reminded me of Troll Island, which was a map made to show where we were all from. There is no longer a map, and it wasn't originated until '02, but there are a lot of "old" names and many of us that stuck around posted to this thread: Troll Island
This was also '02, but what would a retrospective be without a look back at Coinalot. I thought I would again TTT this in case anyone new hadn't seen what was a common source of good humor for us all. Good Morning Class
I'm still kicking on the boards as one of the original members too. I rarely post these days, but I still cruise the Forums a couple of times each week to keep up on things. Now a days school and work keep me pretty busy.
The forums have changed a lot since the beginning, but I look at change as a good thing. Only thing that i really miss is the trading that used to go on through private messages and such. I used to constantly trade circ coins with others on here to fill albums and such. Oh well.
Jeff
I collect bits and pieces of everything or should I say I ACCUMULATE! I also dabble with the darkside
Ive recently gotten more into currency, especially modern star notes
Hey there Jeff! It's kinda like a class reunion tonight! Your right though, we used to have a lot of givaways and trading. Remember we had a "Buddy" trade off. Everyone was assigned a "buddy" and we sent a mystery coin to each other. That was awesome. I received a Whitman raw coin typeset - like 15 coins total. Very cool.
Hendrixcat organized that "buddy" tradeoff. I seem to remember some drama about someone not getting their coin. Was it coincobbler? He was trouble.. LOL

Well, had I known about the forum, I would have joined earlier.
It was Shylock that told me about it, actually. He taught me how to post pics and I gotta admit, I was a slow learner.
One thing is for sure - I don't miss the pepperdoodle posts.
"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.
Yikes, just found my first post, and it ended up a heated debate on the newly released Goodacre SAC's with of all people, TomB and lovdbygod7 (what a contrast that was).. They were right, or wrong.. depends on how you read it. Darn Moderns....
lovdbygod7?? how time flies. Like first time I went to Ft. Worth show to meet spooly, askari dpoole, and lovdbygod didn't send his christmas swap gift, so I posted he didn't and we flamed for a while, then when I met spooly, unbeknownst to me, he had a lovdbygod nametag on!!! standing there looking over me like he was going to do something, I stood up and was ready, but he couldn't contain himself, just started laughing his but off and took off the nametag, I was like spooly!!! YOU DOG!!! We laughed about that for a while! As a matter of fact, it was Kenyon who didn't get his coin and I found out he liked some foreign stuff so I sent him a couple of silver libertads and we have been good friends every since. I still get an email at least every couple of weeks from him.... It's cool the relationships you can build on a forum like this. Good to hear from ALL!!! I hate to mention names because every time I do someone else I knew and like chimes in and I think, Oh yea!!! There that rascal is!!!!

Hey. Missed the Feb date. Tell me though how much was missed? Besides, back then it was worth reading old post. I stopped visiting the boards for a few years. Altoghter stopped collecting. Since i've been back, so many new faces/names. Things I've noticed in my absence: the drama is still here, trolls still lurk, "cleaned" is still a dirty word. The good, the people. There are many long time members who still post. People do still help people...beware of the denist! I am glad to be back and see my old time pals. Anyone heard from Maccoin lately? Any how, this board has changed my view of the hobby, and also has given me a place to vent when needed. I am trying to post more, but it feels like i'm the newbie all over again. Guess that's good though...worked for Madonna.
I was on the old boards for several months before the switchover. I think it was because the old boards were slow and down a lot. In addition to what's already been mentioned, one of the first things I remember was the lively discussion over the millenium sets. Here's to another six!
Nope, I'm a newbie. joined in Apr 01. Oh well, maybe next forum. A lot have come and a lot have gone. As I say, all our visitors bring us joy. Some in coming, others by going. Which are YOU? Thanks for the memories! I'm almost to my first 1000th post too. Ray
You only live life once, enjoy it like it's your last day. It just MIGHT be!
Here! I remember the old boards also, where I was known as DELA. I have learned a great deal here and still enjoy it although I dont post much. Some of the best posters I can remember where Dog97,TomB,Condor to name just a few.
Dog97's still around, though he doesn't post as much. I finally got to meet him in person at FUN this year. What a character, and what a great guy! Came all the way from Alabama on his hog, and had some great coins to show! I don't know if you guys remember the charity fund he set up in his mom's honor--a local spec ed teacher of sainted repute.
He wrote some of the most laser-sharp posts.
TomB was the world's mentor, and as bright a guy as we've ever had on here. He got disillusioned at one point and went across the street, but I'm glad to see him dipping his toes in the water back here lately.
I haven't see KoinKollector in a few years, though. He went to school in Florida and disappeared. I used to like corresponding with him when I collected seated dimes.
Another one I haven't seen in ages is SuperCoin.
My favorite thing going on in '01 was lovedbyGod(xx). Remember that??? LOL
Who can forget? First he hyped Goodacres Sacs and Millenium sets while he sold them on eBay, didn't pony up a Christmas swap item, stiffed some people on their eBay winnings and made up excuses (e.g. he had to take care of his bulimic girlfriend; his car broke down and there was no post office near his school), and claimed to be a doctoral candidate. The last straw was when someone found a 1944 steel cent in his eBay listings. He didn't want to give many details but said someone consigned it to him. Once he was busted on that one he didn't come back.

I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to meet him in person.
I remember being on an older version of this board back as early as in late 1997 or early 1998when coppercoins and I "chatted" (I think he used his old name cd or cdcoins back then, my memory is fading) There was also amworldcoins and a few others. We have kept in contact since.
At that time the site was known as collectorsuniverse.com and I was so enthralled with the name that I took the name collectorsgalaxy.com and locked it away ever since. PCGS was NOT yet the owner of the web site. That was a few years away.
I even saved a few price lists from back then as well!
I missed by a few month's but I'm still part of the class of 2001, I remember finding this place when I first got back into collecting and it has been a great ride and have learned a ton and got to meet a few great member's that were always willing to help. Here's to the class of 2001.

I guess since others after Feb 2001 are posting I will too. I never realized this (new) thing began a month before I got here. I was just surfing one day and found it.

I think this was his setup thread: Hello. You will see an icon in the upper right hand corner of this message. If you click on it and are logged in, you may participate in the poll. I thought it might be interesting to view the income levels of the various members of Coin Universe who collect Coins as a hobby. the topic of the poll will be Annual Income.
I remember ,Cobs,Madeddie and,this is a cool thread.
Truthteller, glad to hear from you,I remember you.

All the old posts are still there - just search the archive. I have been looking back and reminiscing about the days of $399 St Gaudens.....
