What are my chances of getting an upgrade

I sent in 2 one ounce plats that i felt where perfect 70's.I could not find one thing wrong with them under a 10 x.They both came back 69.If i send them back for a regrade, what do you think my chances are for getting an upgrade or should i break them out and send back raw.

    I would crackem out.

Chances like most things are 50% Either they will or they won't.

Chances are much lower if sent in the slabs.

    IMO.

Please let us know what you decide to do, and the results.

What difference does it make? The differences between a 69 and a 70 are so miniscule as to be completely negligble. I'm sure these bullion rounds will still look nice in your collection with either grade.

If it is sent for re-grade then the coin is removed from the slab and the graders never see that it was slabbed. There should be no difference by breaking it out. The coin will come back with a different serial number because of this process.

It will never go 70 unless it's broken out. No respectable grading service will upgrade a 69 from a slab...period.

    Storm 888:

Either "they will or they won't" does not necessarily mean the chances are 50%. The two choices may have drastically different probabilities.
Consider the statement, "The Pope will declare war on Iceland today". Either he will or he won't, but these two events are not equally probable.

As far as grading coming in as either a 69 or a 70, the population statistics, so far, do not indicate a fifty percent chance.

If i sent them in for a regrade in the slabs would i lose the first strike designation on the new holder?

I stand 100% behind my statement. They either will or they will not. 50% yes or 50% no.

And why the heck is the Pope declaring war on Iceland?

    LOL

If you are only holdering these coins for resale later, I would resubmit and hope for a 70. They are worth a consideable amount more in ms70 than ms69. If you say that under 10x magnification you see no blemishes, I say resubmit them. But I would resubmit them raw.

If these coins are yours for the mere collecting aspect, keep em.

Once again these are my simple opinions, and what i would do if in your shoes.

If you send in for a regrade in the 1st strike slabs, you will keep the 1st strike designation, if you crack them out you lose the 1st strike.

Keep in mind that the blemish could be on the edge where you cannot see it in the slab. i.e. it will come back 69 and you wasted $30 in shipping and $14 on grading.

This would indicate a dollar chase, not a collector's pursuit. Cheers, RickO

Which is worth more, a 69 first strike or a 70 regular? There is no guarantee that you'll get a 70, so it's possible you'll just be trading in a 69 first strike for a 69 regular. Or worse, it might come back a 68. It could just as easily lose a grade as it will gain one. I don't agree that it's a 50% chance. Just because there's 2 choices doesn't mean each one is equally probable. Obviously the population reports prove otherwise--there aren't an equal number of 69s and 70s.

How many 68's do you see on that report?

I didn't look, I simply said it's a possibility. The more times a coin is handled, slabbed, busted out of a slab, reslabbed, etc. I would think it eventually would affect it's grade.

Agree with the 50 50 not being correct. It could come back lower for all we know.

    Good for you.

The beauty of sending it in for re-grade is if it is lower then they will default to the original grade. The only time it will come back lower is if you break it out or send it in for review to be lowered.

I agree. Such meshuggass. The only ones who should care are those trying to resell for megaprofits and registry idiots. One should not care less about the greed of the former. The latter needs to deal with their insecurities elsewhere. If you like the coin, why care what the tag says? Why even get it certified? It is authentic.

While everyone certainly is entitled to his or her opinion regarding that statement, speaking solely from my own personal experiences, I find the exact opposite to be true.

I have had a 50% success rate at regrading higher sent IN THE SLABS.

Not so with crackouts. FWIW. image 0% regraded higher. image

Wow, so there you go. Once again a 50% chance. LOl

Bite the bullet and do it, or don't. I see more upswing than down, if priofit is the driving factor.

I would submit it in the slab if its first strike, it does BRING MORE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
