I guess I still remember too vividly selling a decent G-VG unholed example that had a little counting wheel damage across the headband... for 85 bucks. Of course that was more than 12 years ago.

Someone reserved this at $650? Good grief. You can get a nice, problem-free G-4 for that price.
$220 I can see. It's a pretty nice coin save for the hole, and perhaps most importantly, the date is very clear -- making this a cheap filler.
Going back to that "if you had a time machine" thread, I'd like to go back in time to when someone was using this coin for target practice and convince them to use a more common date -- an 1865, maybe.

That's good. And you can see the date clearly. And you can see weakness in the denticles on the obverse from about 10:00 to 1:00 (even if somewhat skewed by the damage). These are all common elements of an authentic 1877 cent. Even if this one were raw, I'd have confidence in its likely authenticity.
Indeed it is. I could not abide a coin like this in my Indian cent cabinet. It's a shame but this holed '77 has been relegated to curio status and is practically worthless as a truly collectible coin. Price? 20 bucks to the curio collector would be reasonable IMO.
