The coin looks like it was buffed out.

    Very unatural in appearance.

Although I don't collect CBH's and rarely look at them - except for those psoted here - I'd say that 1825
CBH is a really good "FAKE".

The obverse just doesn't look quite right, IMHO. The reverse looks pretty good and this coin could easily fool the unsuspecting.

Edited to say:I told you I don't know too much about CBH's. I defer to Bear's description.

If the coin looks in person like it does in the picture hair retooling would be appropriate as the lower curls on the neck look very weird.

It looks real, but there are some very convincing fakes of this era, so convincing as to have been slabbed by PCGS and offered for $40k as a new die marriage. You can probably get this one for less.

I have no problem with this seller, he states in his description that his coins most probably have been cleaned.

I would love to see someone super-impose that image on top of a known similar die marriage to show how well that "new doo" looksimage

At least 2 hours work on this one......

Just looking at the two Obverse pics for a minute and the tooling just jumps out. Good example.

Harshly cleaned, aggressively tooled, and inaccurately restyled. Where's the "Barf" emoticon?

It is 1825 O.102, but as others have said, polished, whizzed, central hair re-engraved. Check out the extra curl below the ear! The mouth and neck have also been messed with.

$212 OUCH! I sent an email to the buyer about this thread, the re-engraved hair, the polishing, and that the value of the coin is no more than $75. I would not mind at all if someone removed this common variety coin from the market and melted it down.

This ebay seller says he is located in Portland, Oregon. I never heard of this seller, and I lived in Portland for over forty years. If the location was Vancouver, WA, I might have a guess at who the seller is---at least once in a blue moon.image

    Not directed at you fcloud...

BUT... Once a coin has had a nice 2 hour applied hairdo like this one has (not to mention the minor plastic surgery to the chin line or anything), can this be called real anymore???
Real to me means not screwed with....

Once a budding young actress has 3 pounds of silicon added to each side of her chest, are they considered REAL anymore?????

Lets call it like it is folks---this one might have started out real, but it ain't real anymore.

Other than the edges being pushed up during the whiz, in my opinion, no.

I respect your opinion thiggy, but I think the only thing NOT DONE yet to this coin is the addition of some nice aging lines added around her eyes to show a litlle bit more maturityimage

It could very well be tooled, but I've seen many example of good whizz jobs where the whizzers ran up the edges during the polishing process to create the appearance of more definition. This looks like one. *shrug*
