Need Help Grading this Morgan - 1880-P VAM 39A Clashed E
Was trying to attribute some of my raw Morgans and found this 80-P 39A. It's part of the SuperCD and Hot 50 sets.
My first opinion is AU58. I used to have a 39A in PCGS AU58, so I dug out the images. This raw coin looks better. I was wondering if it might make low mint state.
The PCGS pops on this coin... AU55 6, AU58 5, MS60 1, MS63 1.
Opinions?

I would call it MS60.... not sure if it is the picture .. but the breast feathers on the reverse look a bit 'worn'... the only real detraction .. (except for mild toning..

I'd say 50-50 tossup between AU58 and MS60.
Great coin too!
edit: the hair over the ear doesn't help the grade too much

Tough, tough coin to grade. Congratulations on the find, that is one of my favorites. I think you have an MS coin, probably 61 or 62. Such a weak strike can come back AU or MS as you probably well know from experience. The cheek is so clean who knows maybe it would go 64 (grin).

I'm keeping my mouth shut. It's not mine any more, but I know it's in good hands!
here's a scan from the other coin...
Nice pick-up!

I agree with the ferret!
In hand I thought monster 58, original skin. I have a tough time grading 1880-Os with weakeness over the ear.

Just weakly struck, which can fool you. In hand, the luster is unbroken.

That's the problem. This isn't an 80-O, it's an 80-P. You've been had. I can understand how you probably don't want the coin anymore. Feel free to send it to me and I'll send you an 80-O in MS62.

I have three that I'm getting ready to send to to PCGS, two are AU but there is the one I think should go MS. You all will be the first to know.
