So, I just got my grades in and I got a MS69 on my 1oz platinum (FS also). I went on eBay to see what they're selling for and I couldn't find any! I only found 1/10oz and 4pc sets but no 1oz!
There is very little data on MS69 one ounce Plats from eBay. If you look at the grading results, PCGS has turned off the tap on MS70 to a large extent. Last week the 70s were running 3 to 1 over 69s and now there are more 69s. It is only a matter of time until they hit the market.
What do you think the difference will be in price between the two and will the spread hold and prices rise? My guess is the 70s are around 3400 - 3500 and 69s should fall about 1000 below. It will be interesting to watch the 69s hit the market soon.

I'm wondering if this is because the early submitters were more selective -- and more experienced -- than those that ordered their sets at the last minute or in "sealed" form on eBay.

I'm not sure where you get these numbers as I haven't checked the pop report. I never saw the 70/69 ration much over 1.0. Right now I'm seeing it about 0.1. Looking at the coins i think it is real. The early coins were better. --Jerry

Nope. We just sent them all in. >>
So maybe the latest coins included cracked-out resubmissions?
It just doesn't seem believable to me that "PCGS has turned off the tap on MS-70," as if those early grades were freebies for the early birds (not that the poster using those words was saying exactly that).

Maybe more unopened boxes have been sent in, not wanting to miss the First Strike, this of course will result in more 69's, as the coins were not cherry picked.

The PT coins are low mintages as we've discussed. There may only be one or two dies for each coin. I know it won't set will with some people but the early coins may just be better coins...First Strike has a meaning!!! Shocking!
<< <i>Doesn't that just mean that PCGS 70 has a meaning? >>
That's a valid way of looking at it but it objectifies coins to a mere grade. Those looking at strike, die wear, and other subtleties might like an early 70 better than a late 70. --Jerry
<< <i>Those looking at strike, die wear, and other subtleties might like an early 70 better than a late 70. >>
Does that concept work the same with MS69's? Those looking at strike, die wear, and other subtleties might like an early 69 better than a late 69?
It seems some would think that there are inconsistencies there considering the fact that original raw coins in Mint packaging sell for the same price, and in most cases higher than MS69's! Even in First Strike! Just an evaluation!
If it was for the Unc W 06's then yes it would of been a great deal. Plat is around 1150/oz so you bought 2175 worth and the rest is plastic. My local brick and mortar has that raw for spot plus a few %. Those were graded and listed for a reason, you just found out what that was. Notice no pics of the reverse? (which I like that rev btw)
I wouldnt call it shady, it was advertised correctly, its just that there were 2 forms of MS on the market--some folks didnt know that, I know the bidder's heart was probably pounding thinking of the deal he was about to close. Hard to do research when you think its a done deal, but research counts, and that W really needed to be in the auction before you hit the bid button.
I have some 2006 non-W platinum for sale and will be listing more tonight. I try to make it very clear in my auctions that it is NOT W. I'd appreciate PMs from any forum members who think it's not big enough print. It is very easy to make this mistake and I've thought about it and I have already decided that if a buyer buys it thinking it is W I will cancel his bid at his request, no harm, no foul.
lilbear8, if you want something less expensive than the unc W's, you might try the proof W's instead. They have the same reverse as the unc W. I expect that they might ride the coattails of the unc Ws up eventually. I have a few sets of them in PR69DCAM I would sell to forum members for what you paid for the non-W uncs. (Please excuse the spam, i will only do it reluctantly in context and then only infrequently). --jerry

Becareful, the guy won't own up to his Forum handle and he denied being part of the same auction a few hours ago.
When I pointed out to him that he and thresea had identical spelling errors (theresa fixed it) in identical write-ups, he went cold.
He's from Brookpark, OH, she's from Parma, OH.
I pointed out to him that I got married in Brook Park to a girl from Parma, so it was a 'gotcha' moment.

Please post if that sells. That price is just too high (yet?); betcha it shows no sale when it ends as scheduled -- or ends early.
I went on eBay to see what they're selling for and I couldn't find any!

Doh!
I should've thought that myself.
I like that prices have been steadily increasing.
Thanks!
What do you think the difference will be in price between the two and will the spread hold and prices rise? My guess is the 70s are around 3400 - 3500 and 69s should fall about 1000 below. It will be interesting to watch the 69s hit the market soon.

Look at these MS/PR70 prices for those 10,000lbs. of ore to create one 1oz. Plat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These babies are bringing in the big "MODERN" bucks!
PCGS Plat $'s
That across the board increase is more likely due to the base metal price change. In 1 month Platinum is up $74 per ounce.
Funny, these threads almost never mention the price of Platinum....

I think that the seller screwed up, listing them under Silver Eagles.
Makes me wonder, if the seller is dumb, or is the buyer dumber?
Camelot
Both, sellers are very nice people.
Sometimes things are actually just as they appear, very innocent.
Thank God, there are indeed, very honest people still around in America!
