    FloridaBill has a nice spreadsheet tracking these. I used it to come up with an average sell price of $4240 for open sets -- as of yesterday. Sealed sets were at $4410.

    It will be intersting to see if the people that jump out at $4500 will be as excited about the move later this year. Lots of people jumped out of 04 proof plats at $4500 also. Peak came later about 6 months later at about 8-9K. Most of us have a cost of capital of less than ten percent and there is a big differnce between making 2k and 6k.

    Based on the historical significance, inaugural isssue, and the fact that these
    are more rare than the 2004's which continue to rise .... I'd say yes!

    One wonders, though, at what price level these will
    begin to settle at and when.

    I think the supply/demand will work on the side of the sellers.

    I'm trying to find a $25 PCGS 70 on eBay and can't. There appears to be only 1 $25 and its a 69.

    Anybody see anything I've missed?

    Randy

    I agree anytime you can take 2 sets to a coin show and the first dealer you talk to takes them off your hands for $3800 profit to the seller I would say there is demand for these coins.

    57,

    The difference is that the 2006-w Uncirc is the first year with the proof reverse. It also has a low mintage compared to the proofs.
  • Options
    Does anybody know if these will be included in the uncirculated platinum registry sets?

    I just checked, and the regular 2006 uncs are still optional, and the "W"s aren't even mentioned.

    Like most moderns they are supported by the biggest and best market maker of all.............Ebay.

    Its true.........Ebay has become the market maker for any product where there is sufficent product and demand to make frequency of trades high enough to support a market. You can buy and sell til to your hearts content. Spread depends on size of market but all and all its as good as it gets. You can buy a hundred common modern commemoratives/morgans/eagles tonight and sell them tomorrow. Sometimes at a profit, sometimes at a loss but always at the true buy/sell price for the moment.

    If you assume that there is a fixed premium per coin and the rest is a multiplier of melt then you can calculate the premium and multiplier by solving the following two equations:

    Ps = M x ms+ F
    Pp = M x mp + F

    Ps is price of silver eagles
    Pp is price of platinum eagles
    M is the melt multiplier that is the same for both
    ms is melt price of silver
    mp is melt price of platinum
    F is the fixed premium per coin

    The problem with your equations is that there is no fixed premium, I think you should consult further with the rest of your engineering team but please don't forget to keep an eye on the reactors while you are in the meeting.image
