Maybe it is still reacting, looks almost melted, many of the coins could just end up cremated in the holder-------------BigE

  • I HAD no inkling it was a M,o,C ..... P,O,S -

mY instincts said "what the f.." but when I saw it was from Pat , i figured no way was it A.T

I got big bucks tied up in coins I bought from him and

the last thing in the world I want to find out is he`s a doctor or sells doctored sheet !

.I will believe in him until proven otherwise

    .
  • I have sold to and bought coins from Braddick. My sense is that he has a keen sense for desireable toning.
  • I do believe this thread has PoTeNtIal.

Yeah, how did that happen? I thought there were supposed to be big profits in these toners!

You might add that the seller is a toning affectionado? (Jeez, I am starting to spell like bUBBAH!) >>

I believe the correct word would be "opportunist"

Edited to add: I believe that the coin in question was removed from the holder, AT'd and then put back in the holder

Be careful with any assumptions... Pat is quite knowledgable about numismatics, does have a keen sense of humor, and is a MOST honorable person. I'll only assume that this will be quite interesting to watch. image

Ditto. I think that if this coin is AT it was most likely AT'd while in the old rattler slab.

Here are just a few of many sold in the past by this "respected" forum member:

but Russ, they're all market acceptable.

    << <i>but Russ, they're all market acceptable. >>

Two were "market acceptable" at PCI which, of course, means nothing. The third was sold raw.

    << <i>OK, let's recap:

    1. the coin is in a first generation PCGS holder which has been the subject of previous AT threads. evidentally forum member Manofcoins and others were able to AT the coins while they were inside the holder.
    2. the coin in the auction link appears to be one of those AT'd examples.
    3. the seller is forum member Braddick.
    4. Braddick has a self-admitted history of dabbling with coin doctors, most recently with former forum member Gmarguli.
    5. the reasoning of the seller is that if the coin is "market acceptable" it's OK to sell it without any disclosure.
    6. forum member Braddick has a habit of exposing other AT'd coins and coin doctors in threads at this forum.
    7. since this thread was started, the seller(Braddick) has editted the auction, presumably to appear forthright concerning it's questionable nature while being benevolent and charitable, while the high bidder is Gmarguli and the attempt is most probably to protect the seller.
    8. anyone who believes there's anything legitimate about this auction, the charity premise and the actions of the seller and current high bidder may be deluding themselves.
    9. i would add that Braddick works in law enforcement in California, or at least he used to.

    did i miss anything?? >>

I have been trying to avoid reading pages upon pages of replies to this thread. Thanks for the summary.

Again, we tend to get up in arms about Ebay keyword spamming, but known AT coins do not seem to generate the same froth of frenziness as Ebay spamming threads. image

those have some cool colors. Abviously AT but still neat colors. I would have paid $50 for each one to keep for my collection.
  • The 1965 SMS Kennedy could be the real deal. Those old PCI slabs can produce some really wild toning! (I am serious)

It was created purposefully by dipping the coin and not rinsing it thoroughly.

any notion that the coins posted by Russ developed the tone naturally is ludicrous.

The really funny thing after the link was posted last time it was selling and noticably at, i saw braddick won it. i point blank in the thread asked him if it was for his personal collection because he saw the thread and bought the at coin anyway. I got no response. Im glad i had to out him before he added the warningimage

This whole auction in question is a scam, and it seems weird that the seller would have the gall to show his face here after it ends. Charity?! I highly doubt it; but if that does happen, it will only happen to soothe his guilt ridden conscience. Doesn't PCGS have a right to pursue such obvious cases of tampering with their holders to produce these hideous creations?

  • mcheathmcheath Posts: 2,441 ✭✭✭
The worst part is that the seller only indentifies it as a MOC coin. To the average collector on ebay this means nothing. what kind of disclosure is that?
  • CladiatorCladiator Posts: 18,340 ✭✭✭✭✭

<< <i>To the average collector on ebay this means nothing. what kind of disclosure is that? >>

Good point and good question. To anyone that isn't a member of this forum they'd have no way of knowing. Heck, they might even think an "MOC coin" is something prestigious and raises the value of the coin.

    I agree.

All of my dealings with him have also been fine, but that doesn't automatically grant him a pass for selling AT'd coins. If he were a stranger to this forum he'd be getting torn a new hole right now.

i agree with you Russ, he isnt a stranger, but he,s not exactlly gettin rich either, as a matter of fact, he takes some fair losses on some of his auctions just having fun in a hobby he enjoys,,image

See that SAE I posted above? It sold for several hundred dollars, as did the 1965 Kennedy. And, those coins are just a few examples of many.

I don't think the amount of monetary gain is what determines if one's actions are a detriment to numismatics...

    BUT he IS having FUN.

  • Q/A on the auction has a confirmation that the coin is AT.

Wouldn't PCGS be well served to take this coin off the market, and possibly go after the AT'er ?

<< <i>Q: is this coin at?
    Dec-28-06
A: ANSWER to mcheath21: If by at you mean artifically toned then yes, it is, but you knew that. Now, how about telling all the guys what your true agenda is? Remember how I blocked you a few weeks back (based on your foul reputation) from bidding on a coin you wanted and how you screamed and cussed and were so upset I'd dare do so? Well Matt, is this your weak attempt to gain favor with others and vent your frustration? If so, it's both weak and lame. But, I suspect you already knew that too >>
