ASE reverse proof question

Is anyone else hoarding them like me?
I've noticed that the Teletrade results are a bit above what one can find on the internet. IMHO a good sign. I snagged a bunch of NGC 69 ones for $175 at NFC . that is about 50 dollars cheaper that the latest won lots on teletrade. The PCGS graded ones are elusive at a resonable price. My mini hoard is now at 25 graded reverse proofs plus my 10 ungraded sets from the mint. I've funded my spree with profits from the AGE anniversary set. God bless the mint for that set!!
This is the first time I have collected so many of the same coin. And I am having fun doing it too! Guess I'm entering Level II of coin maddness. image
Sadly the free money from the mint has run out and I am sad
Now I wil hide my gems away in a dark vault for the next decade and ,with a sly grin ,wring my hands with joy at my dirty little secret. Yep I'm definitly Level II coin crazy.image

At least you're not in denial.image
    Many happy BST transactions
  • Well, I have 13 and still have my AGE set...so I guess I am right along with you on this.
  • Could be risky for you. What will you do when the inevitably get the dreaded milk spots that all silver eagles get?
Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity.
  • Now that is a very UGLY thought!!!

  • Milk spots would definitly be a bummer.
    Thanks for the nightmare. image
  • I find that most silver eagles will not milk spot if you don't slab them. Keep them in the mint capsules.image

  • I'm not going to get my graded. I'm going to keep my set raw like all my other buillion coins. It makes no sense whatsoever to grade bulllion coins. Can't stand the idea of putting a beautifully struck precious metal in a plastic slab with some inflated number on it making it have premium value over the actual precious metal. Leave slabbing for real coins and leave the buillion alone.

KD, I bet If you were assured of a couple of RP-70s

you might change your thinking. It appears to be much better

Except that if it really was just a bullion coin, you wouldn't have paid $100 for 3 ounces of silver with silver less than $15 an ounce.

I don't have the funds to hoard these, but I think you can enjoy them for years to come. I can look at these coins endlessly.

It's a good bet they'll perform in price over time IMO. I've collected silver eagles since they came out in 86. They were so incredible (especially at around $ 6.00 an oz.) I gave the 86's to my kids when they lost their first teeth.

But there is definitely something intoxicating about the reverse proofs. Enjoy the sets!

    Happy Collecting!

Will there be a Reverse Proof minted for 2007 AGE/ASE sets?????

    Anyone have any thoughts???

I hope they wait a few years.....perhaps for the 25th anniversary.

Hoard away. I was lucky to partially make part of my PCGS complete FS 70 AGE SET. And made my own 2 complete ASE FS PCGS 70, 70, 69 sets. These will be put away for a long time. I could sell now and probably make $18,000.00. but I love these coins to much to sell now.
  • I have an 86 proof that is slabbed and no milk spots yet. Yet I say....
Hey, Im new at this so cut me some slack!!

I wonder what those would look like w/wild toningimage
  • Why not collect coins and not bullion?
    Curmudgeon in waiting!
  • I've sold almost 30 FS PCGS graded PR69 Reverse ASE on Ebay over last month and its surprising how many went to same 2 or 3 guys. One told me tonight he is done and I think another is close. I'll be pleased if prices for the PR69 stay above $300.
    Having sold 2 PR70 at $5100 and $5200 I have no regrets.
