I guess I'll have to trust to luck--just won Ebay item #160045845250 at $90 for what looks like a VF20 1817 CBH. Can anyone link this and give opinions. It will fit my date set nicely if it is as shown.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

I hate to burst your bubble, but IMHO, the coin is heavily/harshly cleaned, and is not worth what you paid for it. Major grading services would probably body-bag this one.
I'm the Proud recipient of a genuine "you suck" award dated 1/24/05. I was accepted into the "Circle of Trust" on 3/9/09.
Nice score! I like the coin on it's own merits, but that's O-103a, which is the punctuated date variety (later die state where the dot is gone). The dot between the 1 and 7 could still be there......hard to tell from the pics. Nonetheless you made a good purchase. Please let us know how it turns out.
Thanks!--I had a gut feeling I was OK. Didn't have my Overton handy and didn't think it was a punctuated date variety--the triple denticle below the bust is one diagnostic of the 103-a. So it's an R-3.
What I really like about the 1817 O-103 is that it is the only die marriage that shares the reverse die of the 1817/4. It is probably the closest that I will ever come to owning an 1817/4.....LOL.
