just because you can still "buy" them doesnt mean the mint will ship them.

The Mints limit of 10 is a real pain.

Of course there are idiots, but if you want more than 10 or 20, with a close friend or family, it's kind of tough.

Newsflash. They are being purchased on the BST for $175.

Why do people all of a sudden think they won't get them if they order from the mint? Last Numismatic News report showed about 50k left and the Mint website gives no indication the max. orders have been taken. I ordered 3 more and have no reason to believe I won't get them.

I sold one of my sets on eBay for $175.00. People will buy anything on eBay and may not be informed people. I thought I would sell one set now and see if there is going to be a price increase after the sellout.

I've heard about some creative ways to get around that order limit. It explains how the gold 20th anniversary sets ended up in fewer hands than than some people think.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I know of one dealer who bought from the US Mint , over 40 sets of the 2006 AGEs..

Funny , the Mint had a limit of 2 Gold Buffalo Proofs per order with a 300,000 mintage ,,,,,, yet the Mint had a 10 set buy limit on a 10,000 mintage of 2006 AGEs. .Looks like the lights have been out for a long time at the MInt

People buying now can make the First Strike submission deadline of 11/11, even with opened sets. People ordering now, certainly will not, and may not receive sets at all.

The other reason is some people have more money than brains.

First Strike ended 10/24 for all coins except the Reverse Proof. Read the sticky at the top of the page.

Good point. First Strike seems to have really distorted the coin market, even for things that aren't graded yet.

As far as the remaining stock at the Mint...I believe the last batch of orders will be limited if processed at all. Meaning if you ordered 10 last week, the Mint may send you 5 or 2 or whatever!! It's a gamble to order now. Some who want the set may be happy paying $175 now and not take the chance and find out their set ordered from the Mint will never arrive.

    1. They may no longer be available

    2. Because there are so many 68 grades, folks are paying
400+ for PCGS graded sets with all 69 grades First Strikes
In addition a number of sets are found with milk spots on the coins.

    3. the PCGS graded PR-70DCAM is going for 1000+ by itself

    4. The PCGS graded Reverse Proof-70 is going for 3000 and up,
because at the moment, they are few and far between.

As more coins are graded, we will have a better idea which coins
of the set are the rarest. The majority of ASE 20th ANN Sets will
be delivered too late to make First Strikes. This will also impact
    values.

I think alot of this is residual hype from the AGE XX sets, people are scared that they will get shut out of this also so they figure " a bird in hand is worth two in the bush", no matter what the cost. This is borderline frenzy buying. As for "First Strike" designation this is the biggest con in the hobby today, I would pay not to have "First Strike" on my coins. As soon as a TPG service will define "First Strike" I may change my mind.

There is zero evidence to support this claim. The mint reports sales figures weekly to the numismatic rags and as of Nov 3 there are close to 40K of these sets available. There is no evidence that the mint has ever provided false reports. I am tired of people making this claim in an effort to hype sales.

A: Hedging bets. I bought a set from ebay @$165 and also placed an order with the mint last month (on backorder) @$100. I would be happy to have both at $265 combined. Even owning just the one set at $165 doesn't bother me since the market is so strong for these sets right now (and looks to hold strong through Christmas). Plus, I'm comfortable in the fact that I actually have one in hand!
