Do I neg a well known person in the hobby?

I had an auction end over 2 months ago. I sent the customary e-mail notification at the end of the auction as well as sent additional e-mails. The winning bidder has told me that he is extremely busy and that I should know that he is good for it. I can fully relate and understand that the person is really busy since he is a well-known attributor and writing many articles that are currently being published in CW and NN from him.

Normally -- I wouldn't let this run out this long. But, since he is a well-known attributor/writer in the hobby, I wanted to be patient. But, how long is how long? So -- do I neg? or forget it? Is there a different standard for big-wigs in the hobby and how they treat people?

Neg the dickhead. He wasn't too busy to put you off.

There shouldn't be a different standard, no. Unless there are extreme circumstances justifying the delay (very unlikely), two months is too much for *anyone* to wait. It's time to file an NPB, or at least put someone on notice that you will be filing an NPB very soon if you're not paid.

Why would there be different standards?
notify him that your relisting the item and be done with it.
    I would not neg him/her

Of course not. However, I would only neg someone if I felt the need to warn others of a more meaningful risk.

Give me a break. How long does it take to send out a PayPal? Um, like 30 seconds maybe. How long does it take to write up a check and stick it in the mail? 2, maybe 3 minutes?

He wasn't too busy to bid on your auction.

What the heck. If they treat you like that, they likely do it to others as well. Neg him. Waiting 2 months is a hazard to most buyers imo and inexcusable. I once had a PNG member give me the run-around for a month refusing to return any calls. The PNG got on his case and within 24 hrs, a phone call occurred. The member was irate that I would "stoop" to such tactics.

Some of the WORST dealers in the business are well known and big. So why should that grant them anything?

An ebay dealer once had heart when I was in hospital, didn't even offer my coin to the next highest bidder.
I finally contacted him told him of my plight and apologized profusely, he was very understanding and sent my coin upon payment. But this is an obvious blow off and if I were in your position I would feel disrespected and neg him only for the fact that he was "too busy".
He wasn't too busy to bid or too busy to reply so he could have paid in a timely manner.

no one is that busy. He had time to email you and tell you that he was busy though. priceless. Give him one more stern warning, polite, but firm. Hopefully he gets the message. If he doesnt, out him and neg him.

You will no doubt get a retaliatory neg with some half-truths if you neg him. But that's part of keeping things straight on ebay. Those are badges of honor for fighting the good fight.

If this is QDB.........give him another month.

Let me say this -- it is NOT QDB.

I have 100% positive feedback and I will state this -- I don't care about the retaliatory neg. If I was to get a ret. neg, fine, so be it. To me -- it's the principle in this.

I am a professional attributor and I also write articles for NN. So I understand and can relate what he is telling me. However, with that said -- I am busy too. I have obligations to meet and I am trying to sell some coins so I can pay back a debt that I owe to someone else. But -- to me, and maybe I'm missing it here, but it comes across that I don't deserve respect in this attributor's relationship.

Everyone is busy these days. He said he was "too busy" to pay you but he wasn't too busy to send you an e-mail telling you that. Do you think he is "too busy" to pay his phone bill? His electric bill? His water bill? His mortgage payment? I have a can holder that says "If you think nobody cares, try missing a few payments." 'Nuff said. NEG HIM.

Hold on there, I do think a "well known and widely respected" individual merits a little more slack. This kind of person has paid their dues and deserves the benefit of the doubt. This is the case whether they are from the arenas of: numismatics, sports, politics, etc.

OTOH, there is also a point where that goodwill is used up.

I suggest that you send this individual one FINAL letter. Be candid and curtious. Let them know that if you don't have payment with 3 days (at this point, they should be willing to overnight you, if necessary, at their own additional expense), then you will have no choice but to neg them. Let them know that you've agonized over this and let things go on as long as they have because they have done so much for the hobby. Still, you have bills to pay etc.

You'll get a payback neg, probably, but if they are as big and noteworthy as you say, they may also be big enough not to do so.

    Good luck.

If it was a $10 item, it wouldn't be worth the retalliatory "neg". Just relist the item and put him on your bidder block list .

Just my 2 cents, but I am sick and tired of high-profile pr*cks getting extra consideration that the rest of us are too lowly to receive. Whether it's an athlete, politician, hollywood star, or a pillar of the numismatic community, if they don't play by the same rules as the rest of us, eff 'em.

Otherwise, YOU are doing nothing more than enabling them and affirming the fact that they are indeed above the rules.

If it were me that did not pay, I would recommend negging me under the circumstances.

The one exception would be a major illness, but even then, it takes about 10 seconds to PayPal someone. Of course, if the buyer died you could neg him, but he probably would not care (and you probably would not get a retaliatory neg) and you probably would not get your money.

Who are you trying to kid….. You have to sell to a buyer on eBay before you can give him a negative.

“better not try to mess with me”, what is that supposed to mean? Especially coming from someone who hides behind their keyboard and is evidentially scared of his own shadow (if I’m wrong open up your profile and give your eBay store name).
