mach19; The state qtr. program generated alot of interest and brought alot of new people into the hobby. MHO is that those prices will probably not hold. I reckon it will boil down to supply and demand. I would collect what I like and what I could afford. It sounds like you are looking at this from an investment point of view. Nothing wrong with that, just be careful. Do your due dilligence. Just remember as others on the board have stated, the decesion is yours, and you will be the one who has to live with it. Good luck and most importantly, enjoy it. jws

  • Which state quarter do we like? Or is the question if we prefer silver or clad state quarters when buying mint sets?

Did anyone here buy a 99 silver set at $450 and ride it the whole way down? I'll fess up that I bought mine somewhere around 2016 for about $90. I thought I got a good deal then (and I was itching to complete my set).

@FrankH...Welcome aboard. I did/do not collect the SHQ's specifically, though I have come by a few nice ones in change that I put aside. I really like the Texas quarter...followed by Montana and Alaska....Cheers, RickO

They were the hot topic at one period. Sadly, Not even close to before. The Delaware is probably my favorite? The only ones I collect are the great conditioned ones I find while CRH. :)

State Quarters flamed out right after the program ended. I lost so much money on proof and mint sets I collected from the period. I spent $22.95 on clad proof sets only to sell them in 2013 for about $3.50 at my LCS. But then again, everyone pays tuition of some kind in this hobby.

The only State Hood Quarters that I am interested in, are the silver ones that I can get close to spot price.

    Otherwise, they are spenders.

Most of the state quarter designs leave much to be desired. The ones that show an outline of the state are automatic losers. My favorite is the Rhode Island coin.

There is the thread for a place for people that enjoy state quarters. This forum will greet you with hostility because it is an older set of collectors who have elderly preferences.

elderly preferences??? HUH? What dat mean?? Just exactly, what are "elderly preferences" for coins?

    My personal choices
Best designs: 1. Delaware 2. Indiana 3. Kansas
    Worst design; 1.Wyoming
Dumbest ideas: 1. New Hampshire 2. Alabama - C'mon, design choosers, you can do better then these!

All in all though, a good idea, These state quarters got us millions of new collectors.

Only Jim & Laura Fraser can make an outline of a jurisdiction look good like the outline of the lower 48 on the Oregon Trail Memorial Half.
