do you prefer your coin toned or white?

If given the choice of a pure white coin or a nice rainbow toned coin without regard for value which would you rather see in you album?

    Original as they come, and if older than dirt- then those look nice too.

    Some of these 'rainbow' coins lend me to think a doctor is AT work.

    Is it even possible for a 150 year old coin to be naturally white?

    1 in 100,000,000 might still be white if the conditions were right.

    Circulated - toned
    Uncirculated - Either toned or white. Even though I know its not natural, I still like the look of a bright white silver dollar.

    Not messed with. That means I'd like attractive original surfaces on an older coin and attractive original surfaces (probably "blast white" or close to it) on newer coins.

    Blast white Seated coins and wildly toned moderns both scream "they've messed with me!"

    I voted tone , only because of the limited responce, but Im a 55%-45% leaner on toners,....i just never get tired off pulling them out and "seeing whats up!"

    I collect both with great joy,.....but do not care for proofs at all

    I prefer mint state with luster which usually means WHITE
    with copper, it's RED.

    With toners, it is a case by case situation. ASIDE from all the color, WHAT is the condition of the coin ? That's most important for me.

    image That's what I was thinking before I even opened the post. I don't mind a white coin if that's the way it has always been, and I don't mind a toned coin if it's naturally that way. Heck, I don't mind a psychedelic coin if it got there naturally.

    With only those two choices, I can't answer.

    Original is best. Next to that a properly dipped SILVER coin is OK. I have both in my collection.

    Dipping anything other than silver is risky and usually a very bad idea.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Bill...are you using acetone to dip? Do you use a Q-tip as well or just what the solvent will easily remove?

    I have similar thoughts too. I voted white, but I like a touch of rim toning to add that bit of character to an otherwise "plain" coin.
