RYK: Morgans do NOT suck !!!
In response to a comment in the Legend auction thread ...
For those of you who think Morgans suck, please visit my Registry set and look at the photos, and then tell me if you still think Morgans suck:
Somewhere Over the Rainbow Toned Morgans
It's still a work in progress ... but it starts with this 1878 8TF PCGS MS66:

(Except for the one in my sigline).

Russ, when you show me an "accented hair" Kennedy half that looks like my 1878 8TF, I might buy it.
Otherwise, be advised that accented hair Kennedys suck !!!

P.S. Russ, in the amount of time it took you to reply (one minute, no wonder you have 47000+ posts !!!), I can tell that you did NOT visit my set and look a the photos. Tsk tsk !!!

Your Morgans don't suck. Everyone else's Morgans do suck, except for the coin in Russ' sigline. I think FatMan also has a box of non-sucking Morgans, come to think of it.

I agree. There are quite few coins in your toned Morgan collection that do not suck. i will add you to the list of non-suckers, if you will.
Full disclosure: My son (seven years old) is an enthusiast and budding collector of toned Morgans, and because he is my son, his collection does not suck.
My friend toneddollars' sets are *awesome* too !!!!
Hey I forgot to menrtion my duplicates LOL, but they're only a 50% complete set ...

Sunnywood you are right my set doesn't suck and it does bring me enjoyment!
But yours and TonedDollars are amazing!

After what Sunnywood did with Shields -- the indisputable king of series for die varieties -- I can't see how VAMs would hold much interest.

As for the VAMs, IGWT is right. When I assembled my shield nickel collection, which included complete sets of high grade MS coins (except for the 1880 coins which were AU58, but that's a subject for a whole book), white and rainbow proofs; selected patterns; Cherrypicker die varieties; and even a few errors ... I really got deep into the world of the die varieties. But in the shield nickel series, they are quite dramatic !! There are triple and quadruple punched dates, widely spaced DDO's and even TDO's, and much more. After the shield nickels, I think I was burned out in terms of analyzing die varieties. Besides, the challenge of assembling a complete set of toned Morgans was a high enough mountain to climb, without worrying about VAM's.
So, short answer to your question: I have no idea what VAM the 8TF is. But for anyone is interested, here is the whole deal - maybe one of you can figure out the VAM !!

*Although the obverse die II/I-4 is unique to VAM 17, the A1f reverse die is common to several other marriages(VAMS 12, 16) which are all considered common by survival. VAM 17 is one of the most common 8TF die mariages, with the exception to that being early strikes which may exhibit PL or DMPL surfaces on one or both sides. A two sided DMPL VAM 17 would be considered exceedingly rare to VAM specialists.

Mike,
Do you think it is in good taste for you to link directly to your website's inventory in a post like this? Having a link in the sig-line is acceptible but I am not so sure about this.
