how many of you belong to a coin club

I am looking at starting to go to the coin club in my area, how many of you belong to one. or do most just get there info from this sit, I am fairly new to collection. I mainly collected the state quarters and a few different thing the mint had but since Oct. I started to collect a little more serous with my collection. I don't have a lot of coin knowleadge so would a coin club be good or not. also is there anyone from this board from the Boise Idaho area that might go to let me know if it is any good.
thanks

    PM Sent . .

There are several local dealers in the Boise area that would be happy to help . . .and I think there is already a club in your area.

I have belonged to my local coin club for 25 years, and have been president of it for about 15. Coin clubs are a great medium for exchange of information, a social gathering, and an opportunity to meet others interested in the same things as you. We run two coin shows each year, and have participated in several numismatic programs, including assisting the Boy Scouts in their coin collecting merit badges and distributing Red Books to local libraries and schools. I highly recommend joining a coin club, and if it doesn't meet your needs, get in there, pitch in and make it what you'd like it to be. It is a rare coin club that would not welcome some new blood and ideas.

I belong to my local club but I don't attend the meetings. They are Saturday night and a bit boring. I also hold memberships in several regional and national clubs as well.

I'm a Life Member of the Greater Houston Coin Club [49th Money Show at George R. Brown Convention Center in Downtown Houston in a couple of weeks!!] and a 23 year member of the Fredonia Coin Club in Nacogdoches, Texas. I've been involved in several regional and national organizations, too.

The local club is a great way to foster this hobby and have a good time with others in your area who share your numismatic interests. Even if their 'specialty' is different from yours, it is still a great way to enjoy the hobby.

Four others and I started one two years ago. We have about 46 members of which 15 or so are YNs. We meet the second Thursday night of each month and we average about 25 in attendance. We had our first show this past October (39 tables) and it was a huge success. There are other clubs in the area, but most are a 30-45 minute drive so there was a need for one in my area.

It's been a great way to meet other collectors. We have swap nights, auction nights, and every meeting is a chance to BST with other members.

If there's one nearby, I'd strongly recommend joining.

I belong to one, but it's been a pretty negative experience for me. It pretty much a group of grumpy old men that do nothing but complain and get angry about money that isnt theirs. You wouldnt believe the scoffs I've put up with when I bring "nice" coins to show them. I realize everyone collects at their own level, but they seem to shun those that collect at higher levels. And the sad part is, I dont even collect at that high of a level.

Have you checked out the Indianapolis Coin Club? I'm a member but I live too far away to attend the meetings so I can't say how good the meetings are. I write a semi-monthly article for their newsletter. If you don't know how to contact them drop me a line and I'll give you the Presidents email address. Oh wait here's the meeting infoThey meet on the 4th Monday of the month in the Library ar Guilford and 86th St. I don't have the meeting time.

There is also a club in Anderson that meets on the 3rd Monday night from 7 - 10PM 663 Union Hall at 29th & Madison St Anderson.

Those are probably the two closest to you

I belong to a local coin club, and feel it is worth while to join. I think a local coin club is especially helpful for the more novice collector. I wanted to join a coin club, but the closest one was over 150 miles from me. So I started one myself 3 years ago. We now have 30 memebrs and held our first coin show this past fall, which went very well. So the experience is what you and the club make it.
