What share of your wealth is in gold metal?

I'm not talking about the value over melt of your coins, I am talking about the overall bullion value. Do you think it's 1%, 10%, more, less?

Thanks,

JD

  • Around 2% to 3%, however am reaching for a 5% goal. Currently gold is climbing faster than I would like, so I may slow on buying until my time comes around again.

    I own 1/10 oz...so pretty much nothing.

My grandfather did say he was going to give me his 10 OZ gold brick though...at some point. Hes using it as a paper weight at the moment.
  • I have no idea what my total wealth is, so I honestly don't know. image I figure I own about 1.5 ounces of gold in the forms of various gold coins, gold bars, and gold nuggets in my element collection. I've got approximately 0.95 ounces of platinum, two ounces of Palladium, and quite a few ounces of silver. (Probably a total of a five pounds of silver metal in the forms of eagles, maple leafs, bars, etc). Still, my pride and joy is my 10 gram button of Rhodium metal which has become my first sample/coin to ever be worth over a thousand dollars. image (At ~$3,100 an ounce, my 10 gram sample is just at the one grand mark).
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

Bullion value is less than 2% of net worth.

The numismatic value of my gold coins is around 6% of net worth.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

I can't believe I'm the only one, especially around here.

I wouldn't mind one bit if I could raise that to 20% next year.

I bought most of mine a few years ago. The price rise has slowed me down accordingly. It's a mixed blessing in that sense.

    I'm probably around 5% - 10% myself, but it doesn't say much...

    Oh, gold?

Depends on what you mean by wealth... Net worth? Portfolio?

Whatever I've accumulated in the past few years, I've definitely dollar-cost-averaged up.

kitco says that bid is $492.50 right now, so I guess that I'm still OK. image

Since when do coin dealers control the gold market?

For the small investor they are the only practical way of buying and selling the physical metal.

I just never really figured the percentages of gold, silver, copper, nickel, zinc, steel, brass or platinum in my collection.

I have always considered the collectiblity ( a complete set of Lincolns in a Whitman, or Indian heads, or Mercs)
A doubled die, or a variety. A commemorative or two..... oh so many coins and so much metal.

I'd have to go with Blinded by Ego and Deadhorse on this one....

My riches are in heaven, too........ and on earth, I think about 10-15% of my collection is in gold.

Note: I don't have any platinum ( PM me if you want to sell your Library of Congress bi-metal, though)
  • Lets say about 2-3%.

3% in gold/silver bullion. More if you count $20 Saints/Libs.

I am slowly trying to build the bullion equation up, esp in silver.
Trimmed the $20 gold position some following the recent strength.

    .33%

Would like to get that up to about 2.0% but it will take some buks. Maybe on the end of year pull-back there may be some opportunity but I'm not going to adjust my plan to jump to 2%, it's just a goal.
