What kind of (non-coin) things have you purposely sold coins in order to buy?

So far my list includes helping to pay for my current car, work on the sewer lines in the house, and insulation. And I'm thinking of selling almost all my non-gold ones right now in order to buy a nice D-SLR and pay down the house a little.

Anything you've gotten that you wanted/needed to sell coins in order to get?

I sold my 1969 red Roadrunner convertible (383 automatic with white interior) in 2004 with the understanding that the money could be put to better use in gold coins. While nice collector cars have continued to move up so has generic gold. However, I like the increased liquidity with generic gold coins. The car didn't fit in my safe deposit box either and needed constant attention that I was no longer able to give it. One hobby at a time.

Over time I sold my #4 PCGS Copper Nickel silver Type set to pay for dates with my girlfriend. That was 3 years ago and now they have almost doubled in value in the earlier type coins. Less good coins now and no girlfriend.

I have coins guns and antique watches...I guess if I were to sell for some unknown reasons I would sell the watches...I am confused as I do not want to sell any of them...but it would be a tough thing to do.

I "sold" (actually traded) $1000.00 in junk silver for a house at the height of the runup during 79-80. I sold it 2 years ago for just over $110,000.00.

sold some coins to help buy a duplex, which I sold 6 months later for 100% profit.
Then I bought a lot more coins.

In the process of selling a few coins right now to finance some contruction here.

This culvert cost me a nice Proof Buffalo, Proof Walker and a superbly toned 50-D Jefferson.

Still have to pay for the bulldozer, loader, backhoe and bobcat work and probably 60 tons of gravel.

I sold off some Lincoln Cent varieties and a complete set of circulated Barber Dimes (no '94-S, of course) to help pay for my wedding. I'll probably be selling a bunch more stuff in the next six months to help pay for a family Disney vacation.

Last year, sold some low-endish stuff for a new deer rifle. This year, some better collector coins to help my mom & dad buy a building lot up the road from us. It is an awesome place. I had to part with some really good stuff, actually, but the land in question is beautiful, and having my folks nearby will be good. Now, to keep my sister the crazed architect reined in -- got to get her to design them a house, not a spaceship...
