Here's the best gold coin I have a picture of: 1735 half ducat, Poland (minted in Dresden):

It's raw but I'd guess its grade at MS64 PL cameo. A nice screw-press coin.

My newest and current favorite. Minted in the 6th century BC this gold stater is from the "dawn of coinage" (a phrase I borrowed from board member Weissimage)

It is now not my most valuable gold coin, but it’s the one I wanted the most before I purchased it. I saved my pennies for a couple years before I bought this. Fortunately fate smiled upon me, and I ran into the piece at the same time when I had the money.

It’s an 1804 quarter eagle. The early quarter eagles as a group are the scarcest of the early gold coins, mainly because few people really wanted them. The $5 and $10 gold coins were the real workhorses, and the quarter eagles came along for the right because they were part of the Coinage Act of 1792. Most individuals and companies that deposited gold with the first U.S. mint for coinage asked for the $5 and $10 pieces.

Rarity estimates are that there are less than 50 of these coins in existence. The original mintage was 3,327 split between two varieties. This coin is in a PCGS AU-50, and by today’s standards, it’s PQ.

    Here's my most valuable gold coin, a 1907 High Relief $20. It's in an PCGS MS-63 holder and it's a widget ... a very expensive widget ...

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

1902 Matte Proof £2 Gold. PCGS gave this a PR64. I say it should be a 66 and PCGS does not know how to correctly grade Matte proof Britich gold.
