Would you say NT or AT

I won't try to convince you with words. All I am going to say is that I put it in Acetone because it was in a flip and had PVC all over it. I would like honest opinions (no matter how harsh). I love toned coins, but have no experience telling them apart. So when I saw this one for cheap I got it. $18. Probably got taken, but I like it.

I think AT, but still a great buy for the money. I would be proud to have it in the collection.

Looks NT to me and in the 64/65 range from the photos...

I'm very surprised the toning was not removed in the bath, was it darker before the bath...?

Please keep in mind I have never bathe a coin in acetone..."-)

It is my understanding the color is from refraction of light on the surface film, not the surface film it's self...

I'm surprised the bath was colored after use...

Maybe someone with more experience in this area can chime in...

Putting the coin in acetone is not dipping IMO.

    Looks NT to me.

The acetone taking on color is very suspicious. I have bathe many NT Morgans in acetone and never once has the acetone taken on color.

Looks AT to me. I've never been a fan of that yellowish shade of blue. The color also has that look of laying "on" the surface, not "in" the surface.

the acetone may have looked colored because the coin was still in the cup when I poured it out. I have however acetoned non toned morgans the it turned greenish. maby there was something green on the coin maby not I don't know. I am seeing that At seems to be the majority opinion here. Thanks for everyones input.

Acetone will turn greenish if the coin you soaked had PVC.

The PVC coloring the bath makes since...

I see nothing that screams AT and the vote to date is 7 @ NT and 6 @ AT...

Any way you look at it that's a nice Morgan for $18.00...

    NT. I like it.

Pure acetone itself will not dissolve most metal salts, if I remember my chemistry correctly - and certainly the soluble salts, if any, would probably be of insufficient concentration to color the fluid. Maybe it is AT with Kool-Aideimage, although I don't think that Kool-Aide is soluble in acetone, either...

I'll say it again: purely speaking, all toning is artificial, in that it is introduced by external forces. It's just a matter of time and environment.

    NT.

Acetone will not remove NT colorization.

Acetone WILL remove PVC and that can give it a greenish tint.

    Looks like an NT endroller.

Based on the photo, the surfaces looks pretty good, luster looks washed out, but could be the image. If the luster is all there, I would say MS64, shot - 65.

Thanks for all the responses. AS far as if there is stlii luster there The back is PL and the front almost PL. I had to angle the coin to get the colors so it looks dead. The colors are much nicer in person darker, and with luster. There are a few dings on the face that I think would hold back any shot at 64. I would like to get it slabbed if I could (to make it easier to sell at a later dete). I forgot to ask if you like it or if its not your cup o tea
