Update: buyer's new ID re: Advice please? Got my first neg, and I'm confused
Update 10/31/05: He mailed the coin back, he says, on Friday, and has sent two emails today asking if it has arrived. Ebay member name now is mintstatemadness, if you're interested. He's getting a refund as soon as it arrives.
Oh, yeah, just remembered, his ID before coinsforsaleemailme was tamara123_coins, from 8/1-9/1/05, so that's three in less than three months.
This is the item in question. He received 10/22, and sent an email saying he could not read my return address, and wanted to return it. I immediately send my name and address. The hard copy of the invoice was sent with the item, so my address was not illegible there. My return policy is unconditional, I don't care why he wanted to return, he did not say, I did not ask, doesn't matter. Next day 10/23 I get another email wanting same info. Sent it again, asked him why he didn't use what I had sent the previous day. 10/24 I get a third email, says it's my last chance to reply before a neg is given. Reply again with info. This morning I've got a neg.
Turns out aol cannot deliver to him, code 550 5.1.1, unknown or illegal alias, whatever that means. So, I go to my messages on ebay, and try to communicate with him. He gets it this time for some reason, writes back how amazing a neg is in getting me to respond. Says he will contact ebay to remove neg if he gets refund and positive feedback.
So, experienced sellers, please tell me what I did wrong, and any advice from this point on would also be appreciated. I feel like I did everything in my power to comply, but if he cannot receive my replies, sort of a catch 22. Any idea why he can send on an email address but have aol unable to deliver for the above reason? I'm confused.

Emails may never be recieved because of spam blockers.
you a negative. Seems like he was pretty quick to hand it out. Sometimes you just have to let things go you normally wouldnt put up with in
the real sceme of things. As a seller, you also have to protect yourself.

You didn't do anything wrong. The guy is a moron, and the sad fact is that sooner or later you encounter them.

I'm not sure if I would have done anything differently in your case. Normally my mail gets through or I get a "mail undelivered" mail back from the system. Now I would get him the refund very quickly once the coin gets returned. Then I would try to get the feedback removed.
Only a very few coins "escaped" that morning into submitters hands- yours apparently being one of them.
Edited to add:That insert/slab is rarer than even the black core first generation NGC holders and should command a premium among slab collectors.

I certainly can live with a neg, been in business with the public for 26 years now (drugstore), and lesson learned the hard way, just grates that I don't deserve it. There really isn't anything else I can do, is there?
So, to turn this lemon into lemonade, any suggestions as to my feedback? I'm going to take my time leaving it, it will be a dish served cold all right, and would love to know what you all think I should say.

<< <i>Amazingly, and as buyers on here know I always leave postive glowing feedback immediately upon payment, I did not leave him feedback yet. >>
I also normally leave feedback right away but had a bad gut feeling about this particular twit so also did not leave it for him. Fortunately for me, my eMails got to him.

Because AOL sucks. There's really no deeper explanation.
Move on. Don't let it get you down. Everybody on eBay encounters one of these tools eventually.
<< <i>I did not leave him feedback yet. Hmm, what to do. >>
Set phasers on EXTERMINATE. You're all clear to nail this guy to the wall. But keep it level-headed and business-like, and you'll come out of this smelling like a rose.
Just realized I haven't blocked him yet.

edited to say...YEAH, it's retalitory, SO WHAT?

Thanks, Lee. I'll search for it, but if someone knows it, I'd appreciate the Korean thingie. I was just trying to compose all this within the space constraints, gonna be hard.

in other words, the email you sent was to a user that did not exist.
did you compare the two email addresses to see if they are the same?
ebay should be whitelisted with AOL.
maybe your provider sucks hardcore and allows spam/junk email...
which then causes AOL to blacklist you..
but i think that is not the case, due to the error returned by aol's mail server.
i would prob not neg him. i would just let it go.

your choice of a picture is distracting to say the least.
off topic i know.

how did AOL get mixed up in this?
<< <i>See, I'm really not very computer or internet savvy, so I can't fathom all this, or figure out why he can send with the coinnut50@tampabay.rr.com address, but I can't reply. Anyway, now he says he did not use the address on the hard copy I provided because he lost it. And I get a neg? Brother. >>
You can send out an email with any address you want provided you have an SMTP server running. I have code sitting on my server right now that I could use to send an email and have any email I wanted appear in the FROM field. Better watch out for people who could abuse this.

And it's Taiwan.

I haven't needed to use it yet, but I have it bookmarked for the inevitable...

It's not Korea, it's Taiwan:
http://cgi2.tw.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?LeaveFeedbackShow&useridfrom=[yourID]&useridto=[theirID]&item=[itemno]
Replace the appropriate fields (without the brackets) and voila -- you get 125 characters to express yourself.
Make sure to choose the right button for negative! It's in Chinese, but it's in the same order as the English one. It defaults to positive, and too many times people have left "positive negatives" -- nasty words, but the green button nonetheless.
EDIT: Dang, third. I type too slow...
It's like sniping. Gotta be quick
Braddick - do you know of that actually happening?
<< <i>If he's savy enough to complaint to eBay about the Korean (125 character feedback) page used to leave feedback eBay WILL erase it from his history yet your feedback will remain. >>
I read that post, too, but have seen zero evidence that it has ever happened. Still a concern, tho'.
And this bloke? Savvy? Surely you jest...
<< <i>Bob,

Yes, I do.

<< <i>I think I would have tried to call him. >>
Oh, that's another thing, 10/22 he requested and received from ebay my phone number, address, etc, and they sent me an email informing me of that.
Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
twice is to obtain the buyers contact info. Yes, i have called two slow/no responders
at home. Both times it was similar computer glitches.
I wouldn't give up on your 100 percent yet. See if he will agree to a mutual withdrawal.
He might be reasoned with before it gets too ugly.
BTW, your feedback still shows your an excellent seller, everybody knows there are some
out there harder to please than martha stewart on dirty sheets. (to steal a line from dennis miller)
Or this one is more to the piont,
Neg-Impatient,undecisive buyer.Looking for an approval service. AVOID !!!!
You may want to wait a day or two to allow him to see the err of his ways.He may retract if he knows you tryed to email him.
if one plans to sell on the internet, they should try to become more savy.
when you recieved the error message saying the email could not be delivered,
it should have set off alarms bells. Trying it 2 more times.. heh, would not help.
Part of the blame might be shared among both of you.. sorta a naive duo.
dont hurt me.
cullenbryant, great line

This is one of the reasons I don't state a return option in my auctions. If someone has a problem then we can work something out but I refuse to run my auctions as an approval service.

Pharmer, he is a train wreck waiting to happen.....tread lightly.

It is rare, but I would agrue that it is not as rare as a black NGC slab. This slab type, hologram and label are all still in use. All it would take is someone at NGC to bold the other lines and send a days worth out like that and no one would know.
Now for the NGC black slabs they don't have those slabs, labels etc and it would be much harder to get out of the building. I'm not saying any black cores still exist (I could only imagine and dream of walking into a dusty NGC storeroom and finding a box full of black slabs or protype labels etc but.). You know what I mean?

Thanks to you all for your support, advice, and suggestions as to how I could have done better, I have taken note.
