Always took candy from strangers Didn't wanna get me no trade Never want to be like papa Working for the boss every night and day --"Happy", by the Rolling Stones (1972)
I have 3 good coin stores in my area and I consider all three of the dealers friends. In fact, we're invited to dinner at one of their houses this coming Sat. night. I just visited the other today and he's going to call me when he gets his 600+ Morgan and Peace submission bulk grading from PCGS so that I may pick through them.
It may sound like I'm a big spender, but alas, such is not the case But I have a real love for the hobby and a respect for what these dealers do, so we get along well. Pete

Well so far my conversations and time has ben friendly with the few delalers I work with. But they could just be slicksaleman, or genuiely nice people. I go for genuinley nice until proven differently. Recently I shared some news on some grades of coins. I spoke with the dealer about them and he offered to resell them for me. This in my opinion was a fair offer and acceptable. I did buy them as is, and he did not make any grand claims about them. I'll wait tilll I get the word back from board members..pics coming Friday!
so in summary I like to be on friendly terms and so far they have been.
The three coin dealers that I bought from mostly in the past ten or more years are considered friends. Outside of that small group I think the profit motive might influence the meaning of "friend".
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
Nope, because I'm always trying to haggle and chisel down the price!!
Seriously though, I am not friends with any dealers, because I don't frequent shops often enough or make enough purchases with one dealer to develop a relationship.
I am friendly with several dealers. I consider a couple of them friends. But at the same time, I know when we make a coin transaction, it is a transaction between a dealer and a buyer, not between friends. It keeps both parties from letting their guards down, especially me.
There are more than a few who work in this business that I would call personal friends.

I would definitely count him as a friend. We've attended shows together, splitting gas expenses, and I'll usually get a heads up from him regarding any new inventory he feels I would be interested in.

Secretly, I'd love to go to war with him, whoop his arse and conquer his majestic coins which I cannot otherwise obtain, but in reality it's a love/hate mutualistic relationship.
I don't think he has any sweatshops in the back of the store though.

You've got too much time on your hands.
One I do a lot of business with.
One I do some business with.
One I do very little business with.
One I used to do some business with until he changed jobs.
Is there going to be a party? Perhaps he's calling it "platinum night" lol

Why must you be such an angry young man?
"Hey stiffy, where's that 153 bucks you owe me?"
What kind of jerk treats their friends like that?
and
"Stiffy, where's my lawnmower? You said you would bring it right back!
Doesn't he know that possession is 9/10th of the law?
And then another friend spelled "stiffy" as "stiify"...
Euthanizing them made the best peace. And after all, that is what I am all about.

I do consider myself a friend now, but it took time to develop.
