And all this time there were cookies and no one told me...image But that's okay... they were only concerned that I might accidently dunk one in my martini glass...

So what really prompted me to post this thread?

An email that reads as follows:

Thanks for all the info on your website. It's spurred me on to do something I've been meaning to get around to for quite a while.

[removed one sentence here]. I have a collection of English coins - pennies, halfpennies, threepennies, shillings - ranging in date from 1878-1967. I collected these coins during the late 60s - early 70s.

The older ones in particular are tarnished. How do you recommend that I clean them?

Some of the older ones are quite worn but dates and inscriptions are visible.

Obviously, I'm curious about their value and I'll be looking into that once they've been polished up

I thank you for your time and look forward to your reply

    Yours sincerely

I agree with Wybrit, it is better to clean someone else's coins!

    Wybrit:

With all due respect... I don't have a web site and do not have that contact with folks that just may not have the knowledge with respect to coins that many collectors almost take for granted. I certainly agree that coins should not be cleaned and I did not mean to distract from the seriousness of the message of this post. I am sorry and I did not mean to take anything away from the message that we all share and wish to communicate to others.

Cookies and coins do not go together, someone could get mixed up and eat a crown!

I picked up the suggestion about the use of Olive Oil on this board. Is this considered a No-No also ?
