Thus seller made me drool for couple of years with a lengthy and oft-repeated eBay description of a proof Barber Half, in which he made us imagine a convention of all graded proof Barber Halves, enumerating the number of tables of PR-65, PR-66 etc. until one made it to the small display case of coins comparable to his.

Now that he has hired someone to write more concise (and less entertaining) descriptions of his droolworthy coins, I wonder if it would be less expensive to buy this or to pay a group of doctors to keep my heartbeat pounding regularly after I've agreed to put my money where why drooling mouth was before I mortgaged away my wife's nest egg.

If I had a million dollars to spend on coins...

Anaconda would get most of it.

Wow, what a coin. The rest of his inventory aren't slouches either.

    Have fun...Mike

Held it in my hand in Chicago 2 weeks ago - got to compare it with a PCGS 1897 PF68DCam - the NGC coin was just a touch better - I think they came off the dies 1, then the other - Phenominal coin!

According to Russ, if it's not in a PCGS holder it MUST be grossly overgraded!!!

    Great looking coin!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Great coin, but a price of $88,500, will keep most all of the riff-faff out of the neighborhood.

NGC has graded several Barber halves in Proof 69, but this may be the only Ultra cameo.

Does anyone know if the other 69's have sold at auction, and the price realized?

We are in no man's land on grade, and the market for such a great coin is limited to a few collectors who really have the bucks and ego to go with their bucks.

But it may be worth as much as a 1909-SVDB in 67 !!!!!!

    Edit: Hugon's 1901 in 69 Cameo * hammered for $37,500 in Jan 2005.

Yes, if I had a choice between the 1909-S-VDB and this Barber half dollar, I'd take the half dollar in a heartbeat. image
