Anybody out there have any stories they wish to share about dealing with the US Mint Customer Service folks?

Good or Bad ?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • Yeah, THEY SUCK... I called Washington D.C. directly and got my sets shipped the next day. Just so you know the dorks that answer the phone work out of a call center in Plano, TX. They do not work for the mint but are subcontractors.I think the main job qualification is that you have to be TOTALLY CLUELESS....

I was told my 10, 2005 Silver sets were shipped on June 16.

I waited until June 27 and got no coins.

I called was told that I have an invalid Post Office shipping number. Furthmore I was told the coins were shipped parcel post.

Today I got the coins. The package was rigistered and had a registry number on it. The coins had been shipped on June 21, NOT June 16, and the powers at be had not scanned the Registered Mail number into the system properly.

Am I impressed favorabely? NO. image

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I had a very difficult time getting the web to accept my APO address and update of credit card system. Eventually a lead tech support guy got in contact with me, once by phone (in Europe) and 18 times by e-mail until we got it straightened out.

Now I e-mailed him a new problem with TRACK ORDER. When you order two items (Bison Rolls & Westward Journey Set) and 1 has shipped (Bison Rolls) it displays wrong. He replied, and will get back to me.

  • Decided to complete the online customer survey in the hope that customer service may improve if enough people gave bad feedback via the survey. Survey crashed upon hitting the submit button.
  • Ordered 5 Coin and Medal sets, and they were cancelled by them. They could not give a reason.

They are the most poorly run organization I have ever had dealings with.

Thanks to everyone for the stories! I guess I should have titled the thread "Horror" stories but decided not to in hopes that some "good" stories arrived.

    Again Thanks! image

    Never had a problem.
  • A little slow on shipping but never a major problem?

I too have never had a problem. I only order online and have never had to speak with a person. Although I'm not always thrilled with the quality of the coin, I've never had a complaint about the service.

I had an order last year that had some 1999 SBA proofs (before they sold out) along with a Thomas Edison proof which never showed up.

It was split into multiple shipments and part of the shipment did arrive and it contianed some coins I wanted to return. I also received an Edison proof from another order that I wanted to return also, so for convience I listed the Edison from the other order on the return slip from partially shipped order.

So, by the time I finally reported the missing package, I had already returned a coin on the order that I was now saying is missing.

There is a form you have to fill out for a missing shipment, so I did. The Mint then sent me a replacement (including the newly sold out 1999 SBA proofs). Then a few weeks later they sent out another replacement order - so I got five SBA proofs for free a couple of months after they had been sold out.

  • Did everyone read the CW story where that lady ordered one 4-coin platinum proof set and got 27, with $68,000 of charges on her credit card? That's gotta take the cake image
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

I guess it was in 1996 I ordered one each of the 95 & 96 Olympics Silver Dollar Comms.
Sixteen little packages came to my box a couple at a time.

Two weeks later it all starts again. It's a double shipment.

Several calls to the mint and they still keep a coming.image
With each call they tell me they will send return labels.
No labels ever came and I never paid for the second shipment.

A few weeks after the 15th package, I wrote a nice little letter to the mint.
I explained the whole deal about it being a double shipment and
ask for instructions on where to return it.

I also explained that the 16th coin never arrived.

A while later I receive a letter from the mint.
    It went something like this.

Sorry you didn't receive your order.
We will send a replacement as soon as possible.

Never got the replacement but I sit here 10 years later still looking at these coins.
Whats really funny is, have you looked at the prices on all the 96's today?imageimageimage

I order from the mint once or twice a year, and have done so through their website each year since 1999. This year, I was unable to log in to their website. I couldn't get my password unless I knew my user name and vice versa.

I called customer service yesterday, and gave them all the information over the phone. They knew who I was, and asked me to verify all contact and billing information. The representative was quick to take my order for three items, all of which she said were currently in stock and ready to ship. She would not tell me how I could log in to their website, but said that I could track the progress of my order on the website (if I could log in.)

Last night I received an email stating that two of the products were backordered. Tonight I received an email stating that the third was backordered too.

At least they only charged my credit card one shipping fee.

You don't need to log in to check your order.
    Try this.

    Thanks for the link, Larry.

Unfortunately when I tried this with my name and order number (using eitherInternet Explorer 6 or Mozilla Firefox 1.0.4) the site simply returned "Track order not found. Sorry, your order was not found. Please check your order number and resubmit....."

I ordered a couple Mint sents and they were shipped on June 17th. I ordered a Silver Proof Set and it was shipped on June 26th. The Silver Proof set arrived today. The mint sets still haven't arrived, I called the mint and they said I have to wait 30 days to file a claim on them... image

I use to get tracking numbers for each order where I could click on and see exactly where the package was, now I just get a generic parcel post number every time I order on the order tracking page which is completely useless. I hate this new system they're using, I never had a single problem receiving orders until they put it in place, since then this is the second one that was supposedly 'lost'. (I have an Armadillo Mailbox and I know our postal carrier, so I know it isn't being swiped after it leaves the post office)

To date they have sent me 350 bison 2 roll sets that I didn't order.

I would have put a stop payment with my credit card company that they have on file a long time ago and just kept them all... image
  • I mailed an order in, for the 2005 Sac & Kennedy rolls. It took SEVEN weeks to acknowledge that they'd even received my payment, another week before I gotthe package. I was QUITE pissed. I mailed Western Union a money order cancellation form, at least THEY were quick! image

Yeah, and you're right. The 1-800-USA-MINT people seem like they're trying to be helpful, but they're totally clueless.
