But who are we to question that? They have a right to conduct their "legitimate" business. It's only a subjective opinion, remember?

The only thing I can tell stinking on that link is the image. It appears that the coin does have some unattractive toning but that's most likely the very bumped up contrast on the image making the darks look darker. I'm just trying to be objective here.

Why do you say this? Is your problem with the coin? Or the holder?

Considering the coin is 193 years old I'd be more suprised if it wasn't toned. Unfortunate that it's not "WOW!!!!!!!!!!RAINBOW HUED!!!!!!!!LOOK!!!!!!!!!" but not a bad coin.

Kelerag, based on the Red Book pictures I'd say it was a small 8.

Wow, you have to be a real Bust nut to enjoy this coin. The coin is slabbed (LOL) in an AU 50 holder. If you look at the close ups of the coin it's been cleaned so harshly it looks like it was sand blasted. Then some of the worst (AT?) toning I have seen in some time. Almost certainly because the worst scratches from the cleaning they were trying to cover up.

I've bought from this site before. I've won some great stuff, and I got stuck with mis-represented dogs. Guess which one this coin is.

image I just looked closer at the date. I think you're right 1812/1 (small 8) anyway, makes the slab even funnier that they didn't pick up on the overdate. Nor did this auction site spot it either. I would grade this coin EF details, harshly cleaned, questionable toning, maybe a net Fine 15 or at best VF 20. What's sick is that someone is going to bid AU or better money on this POS. (They always do on this site.)

The slab disclaimer had to be on this auction because they don't want you to be able to return it.

The 1812/1 small 8 is a tough variety. For many years my set piece was only VF30. From the pictures provided the person noting the variety did well. Cannot tell about possible cleaning and or AT but the coin could go XF for wear. On this variety the stars are often flatly struck, expecially the ones on the upper left. The picture appears to show clash marks under the bust which is normal for this variety.

Who knows, the pictures could well make the coin look worse than it is. For this auction the holder makes this lot worth less than if it were raw.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

    i agree
the holder only hurts the coin.
rather see it in an anacs holder with a closer-to-true assessment of grade.

I can't believe anyone would think that's what an original bust half should look like. Appears to be AT to me, and probably to cover up problems.

Before I'd agree with the POS comment I'd like to see the coin in hand--at EF35 its not bad--not sure from the pics that its been harshly cleaned (my computer lacks a bit in clarity) starting bid is $1 I believe--I'll give him $50.

I'd give them $50 in a heartbeat. It's currently at $245.00 which is about $40 more than EF bid I believe (by memory) anyway, what I'm saying is by the time it closes it'll be near the $500 AU bid, which is a royal crime for this POS!
