Just had the Eliasberg pedigree put back on a PCGS coin I bought. Can't figure out why the original pedigree was missing.
Any good reasons to have a famous pedigree removed?? (Not referring to pseudo-famous registry pedigrees - those SHOULD be removed!!

I have asked this before, and the best answer I have heard is that someone selling the coin might not want a buyer to know what it previously graded (probably lower) and what was the price paid in the auction (also probably lower).
I think it's a sad and a shame, but it happens quite often.

but seriously, i've cracked coins out of "name" pedigreed slabs w/o hesitation.

The guy who used to own this coin (oh, and a few others):
A crackout artist might want to lose the pedigree (and the slab) if they thought it could go 64 submitted raw, for example.

Who has ever seen them both in the same place at the same time?????

In my experience, the most common reason I have seen pedigrees removed, has been where someone has gotten an upgrade and doesn't want a subsequent purchaser of the coin to be aware of it.

More importantly, who would want to see them in the same place at the same time!
Bowers was a bit generous grading the small cent patterns in the catalog - currently P64, weakly struck since it's a 25% nickle die trial.
