Poll: Who collects moderns?
it's nearly impossible to get feedback here, especially if you are asking questions about moderns.
A direct quote from another thread. I would guess that a majority of the mebers here are active modern collectors (however you choose to describe it). Let's start a poll and see.

Would the assumed definition be any coin that is currently in circulation?
Lincolns, Jefferson's, Roosies, Washington's, State Quarters, Kennedies, and Saca-ja-wackies!

Jokes aside, this topic has been discussed ad nauseum here. I will paraphrase the judge in the Larry Flint case by substituting the word "moderns" for "pornography":
I do not know how to define "moderns", but I know "moderns" when I see them. And so do you.

Modern US coins can be just plain ugly at times ... but that hasn't stopped me from working on keeping my Dansco albums up to date.
As far as modern in general goes ... I am leaning more towards the dark side day by day ... especially bimetallic coins. The variety of designs can be quite interesting at times.
Otherwise, I prefer classics ... art at its best.

I'm going to pick up my Danso Type Album (without the gold sheet) tomorrow to start filling in with the types I've collected so far. I have all denominations (except the 20c) but I'm lacking a lot of the different types.
I'd say I'm collecting about half and half.

I'm thinking of giving up coin collecting; I'm going to start collecting statements made by Russ. They make me laugh!
Oh, and 4 71S Ike’s on the window seal in envelopes. Going to open in August to see what, if anything has happened
Generally I do not collect modern coins in slabs. I much prefer the the mint packages with all of the certificates and boxes.

Afew corrections... the music stopped after the Miles Davis Concert in Carnegie Hall in early 1962. I still have not accepted the fact that Dave Brubeck appeared on the cover of TIME magazine before Duke Ellington.
US collectors seem to have a very narrow view as to what constitutes modern coinage... across the pond modern coinage dates back to the reign of George III, perhaps earlier depending upon who you talk to.
While many question the wisdom of collecting modern or classic, it really isn't about wisdom... it is about fun and developing a lasting interest. Today's modern collector may be completely captivated by a Harald II penny from 1066 ten years from now. Do not limit your horizons and choose not to close any doors before they open.

I would say that there is not much the anti-modern bias as others have suggested. In fact, there may be an anti modern-bashing bias.
