I just ripped 3 Hobby boxes, but before I post what I got, I have a question. Has anyone had any issue with the condition of the SPs? A lot of the SPs in the "sweet spot" had sort of a dinged bottom right corner. If it was anything else, relic, Then and Now, Chrome, or Refractor the condition was just fine. A little frustrating, but overall a nice experience. I would like to send them back to Topps for an exchange, but I forgot which thread it was in - I believed Stone was the one who mentioned it. Anyway, here is what I got.

    Authentic Stadium Seat Al Kaline
    Clubhouse Collection Dontrelle Willis Jsy
    Clubhouse Collection Miguel Tejada Bat

    Then & Now:
    - Eddie Yost/Bobby Abreu
    - Herb Score/Randy Johnson
    - Bob Friend/Livan Hernandez (2)
    - Don Newcombe/Curt Schilling

    New Age Performers:
    - Pujols
    - Vlad
    - Nomar
    - Soriano
    - A-Rod
    - Ichiro

    Flashback:
    - Frank Robinson
    - Ernie Banks
    - Herb Score
    - Luis Aparicio
    - Al Kaline
    - Don Larsen

    Chromes:
    - Glen Perkins
    - Chris Denorfia
    - Jeff Kent
    - Lance Berkman
    - Kole Strayhorn
    - Gary Sheffield
    - Miguel Tejada
    - BJ Upton
    - Akinori Otsuka
    - Chris Seddon
    - Javy Lopez

    Chrome Refractors:
    - Jeremy West
    - Todd Helton
    - Alfonso Soriano

SPs to come in another post...

Bought two boxes today at the local card shop. I'd say it was dissapointing for $153.

    11 SP's

    2 Ref's Beltran,Fenster

    6 Chromes

    96 Dup's!!!

Guess i'll try the Blister boxes next week and see what happens.
Still wanna get my hands on some of the Cardinals. Especially the Edmonds and Pujols SP along with the Matheny SP.

I started on one of my two boxes and I still don't know what I am looking for (since the last modern issue I bought was in 1989). After 5 packs, I see nothing but current players (most I have never heard of). I love the design and the stock. How do I know if any of these are worth anything? I did pull an Ernie Banks Sets Record with a stadium seat patch. Pretty clever how they do cards like that.

In regards to the light backs...I opened six boxes.

In the first 3 boxes I received a total of 6 cards and they came out of the same pack.

The next 3 boxes I received 99 light backs and they all came in the same packs (all the cards in each pack were light).

I think it may have to do with certain printing sheets as there are certain cards..as out of the light backs I did get there were a number of duplicates.

The Bonds eBay spree is over.

    My 1st Bonds #61 Auction = $8.50
    My 2nd Bonds #61 Auction = $11.50

(Beckett comes out with SP List)

    My 3rd Bonds #61 Auction (ended 5 minutes ago) = $2.26

Still paid for approx 1/2 box for 3 base cards.

    Gotta Love 1 day auctions.

All of my "light backs" came from a local hobby shop. I will get the Kuhlmann boxes on Tuesday.

I have duplicates of some of the light backs...and would like to trade for ones that I dont have.

They all seem to be base cards.

Maybe we can put our cards together and come up with a a master list of "light backs"

    Hi Kevin
That Bonds refractor you sold on the BIN for 25$ was a good choice - I just tracked a Bonds refractor that didn't get anywhere near your card!

Unfortunately, a Carl Erskine auto only brought 6 bucks - and he's a Dodger!

My feeling is that JoeStalin could of listed it as a 1 day auction and it would of one higher than $25 I think.

I listed a Bonds regular chrome the same day via a 1 day auction and it sold for $14.55.

    Just my thoughts.

yeah early is certianly the way to go now. The "pay whatever" guys have already gotten their cards.

As far as the light backs go, could it be possible that only certain cards have the light back variation? I guess we could all compare
are numbers once everyone opens everything. I checked over on the beckett board and it was a bust.

Those team topps autos are just nasty, no one wants them! What a crock. Well so far, four boxes in- no autos and no Todd Helton...should
    I be worried??

    Ryan Legends Auto

Please tell me this isn't the Ryan card from 05 Heritage, with an 03 date.

Can anybody explain the concept of Topps Team Legends autos, and why they feel that they can just put them into any set they want?

On a side, note, look at the auto list from 05 heritage - guys like Spook Jacobs, etc. who played for 3 years. These are dollar autos that they are exploiting because of the Heritage brand. B freakin S.

I still want them though, and thats the coup that Topps has pulled.

i in 2002 (?) topps seeded team topps cards into heritage, not the bland team topps legends. i liked them much better they were auto graphed reprints of first and last year cards. IMO much better.

yes, it is the same.. i pulled a Davey Johnson Topps Legends auto out of a 2005 heritage box, and I pulled the SAME EXACT CARD from a 2004 Heritage box! suck..

and since i havent posted it to this thread yet, here is a scan of the other auto i pulled.. sweet!

Well here's the first box I opened (and apparently overpaid for by a bit, as in more than $70, oh well image ):

    Regular Set SPs (10): 449, 413, 82 variation, 403, 470, 455, 426, 447, 33, 422

    New Age Performers, NAP3, NAP15

    Then & Now: TN1, TN8

    Flashback: F-BF. F-HS, F-DL

    Chrome: 1, 34, 83, 103

Well, the next box has a decent shot of being better image

Are the 2004 Heritage card prices (at least those listed in Beckett) a good guideline for 2005?
  • Options
    joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
yes, sp's are usually minimum 5 bucks, rookies 8 starts 10+ chromes usually book the same and same with refractors. early sales
on the black refs and the autos are usually much higher than what the book says.

Yeah, really. I thought I knew the top Met and Yankee prospects, and they have cards out
of "mets" and "yankees" I haven't heard of. I guess 1956 didn't have "Rookie Stars" cards so you
    get these wild specualtions instead.
