The '56 backs were VERY different, much more than these. My son and I took out the binder of '56's before we started opening packs, and they are distinctly different.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • image

some "whitebacks" from the first 2 boxes i opened
  • i agree, the 56's graybacks had a distinct grey cardboard stock while the white back looked similiar to white paper. with the heritage both types have cardboard stock with the color varying.

Well, 15 boxes down. (1 sealed case yesterday, and 7 asst'd boxes from 2 cases today)

    Here are the results.

49 Chrome #/1956 (only 2 dupes (Sosa & Randy Johnson))
    14 Refractors #/556 (no dupes)
    1 Black Refractor #/56 - Chaz Lytle
4 Stadium Seats Relics (1 dupe, Ernie Banks)
4 Club. Coll Bat Relics (1 dupe, Lance Berkman)
1 Auto - Flashback Auto, Bob Feller #18/25
19 Then & Now (Still missing #5 Herb Score/Randy Johnson)
20 NAP (Still need #1 Alfonso Soriano)
35 Flashbacks (lots of dupes, don't need any)
    154 High #'s and variations/SP's
    Lots and lots of checklists...

Need 9 cards for a master set (as of my 8 box case yesterday I only needed 13, so I was bummed I only picked up 4 cards I needed out of 7 boxes I ripped)
I added 3 base sets, though I need card #303 (Palmeiro) for the 3rd set.

Also have lots of commons... I'm not completely sold on the SP/Var list that's floating around, my results from my 2 cases and the 9 box break a buddy did, tells a different story than some of these lists. Especially on the variations. I have numerous Bonds (no variation, didn't even see a variation on ebay, though lots claimed they were. All of my Bonds came from a different spot in the pack.

Nice pull on the Feller and nice way to bust the 1:6000 pack odds too!

Funny, that ive opened 2 boxes and you 15 and I have both insert cards you need..Soriano/Randy LOL Im sure you will get them somewhere. I would love
to hear your hypothesis on the sp's. Are you also telling us that you have pulled short prints in other spots in the packs other than second from the
bottom? Chrome set look easier to make this year.

Thanks for sharing. make sure you add the Feller to the heritage museum when you get a chance

    Kevin
  • for the last 3 years , the last cards i needed for my master set have been NAPS.

    nice pull on the feller.
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
Well, I guess what I'm saying on the SP's is that unless Topps randomly placed the Sp's in varying spots (other than the 2nd card in, as has been the case with almost all so far, this year and in years past) then they are not SP's. For example...Bonds #61, I've got 4 or 5 of them. Not a signle one was pulled as the 2nd card in. Ichiro, got several of him running (same number as the rest of the "commons" but he's listed as an SP. I can tell you for certain that the kneeling w/bat is the SP on that one. Thome, while I only got 2 or 3 of them, was never in the "special spot". I would be happy to provide scans of the card I think is the SP... Another example, the Sweeney card, I only got 2, both are in the current sox uniform, same with Alfonzo... So I'm not sure, couldn't find a single one any different than mine on ebay either. I'm thinking that one is just an SP, not a variation as the list leads you to believe (I think it's labeled as "Old uniform")

You guys are killing me. I may have to jump in and get a box. I'm warning you, if I end up getting a second box, I'm coming to find each and every one of you and knock on your door during dinner and bother you and stuff. Then your dinner will be ruined and I'll have my revenge.

    Lee
  • i only pulled one sweeney and it's the current sox uniform.with
alfonzo the variation is the one with him wearing the ny giants cap.
  • I love the Topps Heritage cards. I have master sets for 2001 - 2004. Last night I opened several Hobby boxes of 2005 Topps Heritage. I will go through the cards tonight in detail and post some results regarding SPs. I pulled approximately 350 high number and variation SPs. The most difficult base/sp cards to pull were the New Age Performers. I probably pulled enough SPs to put together three sets. However, I am one card short of a New Age Performer Set and I do not have any doubles. I also noticed that I did not pull card no. 475. I pulled one autograph - Podres. I pulled 2 seat cards - Frank Robinson and Luis Aparicio. I pulled several bat cards - Pujols, A-Rod, etc. I did not get any Black Refractors. I noticed that most of the SPs came from the right and middle stacks of packs in the box. The GU cards came from the left stack. I also noticed that the chromes came from the right and left stacks. The chrome packs also were at the same level in each stack (e.g., if I pulled a chrome in the 4th pack down on the right, then there was a chrome in the 4th pack down on the left stack).

  • CDNUTS- if you show up at my house during dinner time make sure your not empty handed. you'll need, either a pistol or a couple of boxes of 05 heritage.

packman-I actually kept track of where the chrome, sp's, gu, autos, etc were all falling. last year it seemed the top row would yield 3 chromes, the next row nothing, 3rd row sps/high #, and bottom row sp/high #. However this year, While ripping all 15 boxes I had a cute little spreadsheet I wrote on. There was no rhyme or reason to any collation. My gu came from 4 or 5 different spots, chromes and high#/sp's if hit on one row, would usually hit twice on that row. I usually hit checklists on the same row, usually the top row. other than that, it was a crapshoot. Even from within the same case, although, I will say on my sealed case the game used were all 4 boxes stacked on top of each other. Coincidence I don't know... Will know more when I rip the retail case next week. My other 7 boxes came from 2 different cases.

highend-I'll have to check my alfonzo's. I have him in a Giants hat, but I only have 2 of him out of 15 boxes... IIRC he is wearing the "G" hat.

I know Ishii and Edmonds are very tough, I managed only 1 of each in my 15 boxes. The high numbers were pretty plentiful. I still need Andruw Jones #130. I only pulled 1 Chipper SP (standing, not sliding) and I think 1 Schilling SP (Glove in front of face) If the magic # of 110 sp's is correct than the list is wrong, on at least a couple of cards. My money is on the regular Ichiro and the Bonds. But...can't be certain. Hasn't Jay from Quality Cards put out his sp list yet? His was perfect last year... I keep checking his site but haven't seen it yet.

The regular retail boxes should ship 2/22 or 2/24 (thread on this earlier today) Not sure about the booster boxes but I would expect them around the same time. Here's hoping we get the goods again this year. I need Andruw Jones still. image

Just sold my 2nd Bonds #61 for $11.50 on eBay.

I did not list shortprint or SP anywhere in the title or description.
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
1/6th the box price on one card...that aint bad! Bonds is not a sp according to beckett/topps, or course that doesn't mean
anything. Lets hear what the case breakers say.

I stole her from some guy on the beckett board. That would go great with a 12 pack! How would you like to sort through
    the 6000+ commons??

Good God is it Saturday yet?

    JS

  • Opened 10 boxes today, 16 more coming on Monday.

It was good bad and ugly.
How come Larry Bowl, Wade Miller, a team card or Madigan are always the last card in the pack. It's like looking at your cards in poker, you slide it down and slowly peek.

What I got were . . . . The regular stuff. Nothing spectacular among the SPs, variations and inserts.

    But, I got

    1. Luis Aparicio No. 5 of 25 autographed authentic stadium seat card.
    2. Autographed Wally Westlake (blue ink)
    3. Autographed Jose Santiago (blue ink)
4, Autographed Art Swanson (blue ink)
    5. Darren Febster blank border 24 of 56
    6. Bob Feler flashback authentic stadium seat
7-9 three clubhouse collection (Lance Berkman bat, Dontrelle Willis uniform, Alfonso Soriano bat)

    I also have
    8 xx of 556 refractors
    32 xxx of 1955 chromes
need 20 cards to complete 108 SPs/variations (plus 37 doubles)
have 12 of 15 New Age (plus two doubles)
have 10 of 10 Ten and Now (plus 5 doubles)
have 9 of 10 Flashbacks (plus 12 doubles)
I had two base sets complete, a third almost complete and plenty of commons to sort when the two cases come on Monday.
    Oh, 25 checklists, too.

First time I've purchased bulk. Is that a good pull?

  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
holy cow, 4 graphs in 10 boxes..thats sick...were they from different cases?

  • I bought 10 at BIN in December on EBAY from Paljoey or something like that. One case (eight boxes) were in the shipping box with two boxes. One of the boxes had an auto. The other autos were in the case that I had to break open.

can we get some scans of the autos from wally westlake, jose santiago, and art swanson...i have collected the original and know these cards really well...but it would be cool to see them signed!!

    loth
  • I have a scanner and know how to scan them. But how do I attach it to a post? I'm new at this. I imagine I can leave it on my desktop and link it somehow. Or, if you want, I'll email them to you.

  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
go to photobucket and sign up for an account. put the scans in your album. Once you have that link its just an easy cut
and paste job onto the thread. once you scan the card photobucket will give you three options to link..cut and paste the
bottom of one of those options and it should show up in the message...perhaps you can put them in the heritage museum
post so we can have everything together. Congrats

    Kevin
  • nice aparicio card!!
  • Can I get a link to the Heritage Museum. I've been looking for it but can't seem to find it.
