Is it just me, or is there a lot more rude, self centered people on the Boards than there used to be

BigEBigE Posts: 6,949 ✭✭✭
In the past when you helped find someone a coin, helped them with a question or did a favor they would at least give you a PM or thumbs-up. Also it seems like some just log on to make intimidating posts for no reason whatsoever. Lots of "Road Rage" lately and bad manners, I hope it changesimage------------------BigE

I also thought things were a bit more positive lately, although I only stop by every few days now. It seems like we have alot of new people lately which is good imho.
  • well...i'll apologize in advance, if i forget to thank someone for they're help.....image (because... man i need some help)
  • I think the legend thing of "wannabe dealers" didn't help much. I've been here a year and I have noticed that there isn't alot of educational threads lately.

Being still relativly new to the forum even after a year......its hard to contribute......but I try when a question comes up an have a small clue of the answer

  • I’ve been on this site for only a few months and I have asked many questions. I have always gotten many answers to each question; either informative or funny. (I appreciate both.) It never occurred to me to send someone a PM and thank them, although, I have often thanked them in the thread. I think it is one of those forum-etiquette items that people may be unaware of. So, let me say thank you to everyone who has taken the time and effort to cure my ignorance.

Nope it's about the same as it is normally. The exception is that there a few who will always find something to attempt to aggravate and those few tend not to give up on it when they start it. I am not referring to any dealers either real or wannabe either.

I agree with the initial post...I see a good bit of people jumping to conclusions and wanting to "go out and lynch the Frankenstein monster" before we hear the whole story.

We should be able to use this forum for educational purposes and to protect each other from unsavory characters who might try to scam us, but we need to be careful not to accuse anyone unjustly. While we should all be cautious with our money, some of us seem to be a bit overly suspicious IMO. (I always wanted to use that! -IMO that is)

Rick its always been like that here, it isn't a new phenomenom. What is new about it is with all the new members that have joined recently they noise level is higher as more of them think its the norm around here.

Then again sometimes one can just be honest and straight up with their opinion and it's taken as "Rude."

Sometimes folks on here don't want to hear honest opinions and want a nice response (suck-up
    comes to mind.)

I for one am not so great with a keyboard to articulate a well written response or debate.
In person though.... I can tell someone where to stick it and they don't even know they've been
told so. On a keyboard I just tell them to stick it. Much easier and faster, as well as to the point.

As far as I can tell there are only two or three really nasty people who post here consistently. A couple insist on fighting with everyone and a couple are just arrogant and snide. None are people with any standing in the coin world.

There are some exhibitionist types who need to show us every coin they buy or grade they receive, but they mean well and are basically harmless.

And even though some dealers get flamed here, even the awnry ones are good to have around as they add a professional perspective.

Edited to Add: I also agree with what Stman said. Some folks are easily offended when an honest opinion is given and it is not what they were hoping to hear.

There have always been a lot of great people here and lots of information. There is
a general "tone" to the board which changes. It seems as though most people are
trying to be polite and most are succeeding in recent months. Even when there is a
fairly rude post, it often appears that the poster was attempting more to be blunt and
    honest than rude.

In any case there are still lots of great threads and some OT just as always. I really
don't have a problem with OT and on rare occasion will even post OT or to such threads.
I usually avoid posting OT in good threads even to thank someone for information or
explanations. Perhaps I need to get in the habit of sending more PM's for such occasions.

The last two days have reminded me of this thread, and the incorrect initial assertion, which implied that new members were at the heart of the author's perceived "problem", which I thought did not exist in any event. But to give his complaint the benefit of doubt, his "problem" may be illustrated by the majority of threads comprising the first page, in which very few if any new members have participated.

image Why waste your time or post in response to these people? Just feeding the fire of their desire. My major concern with the boards since I've started posting here is "Way To Much OT Stuff Going On Now" and I haven't been here very long. Let's stick to coin topics and coin related information. Thanks, Lee
