Nothing is Sweeter than when that Dealer Reaches for that Dusty Ol' Gray Sheet!

braddickbraddick Posts: 25,140 ✭✭✭✭✭
I played hooky today and made it a coin day. I mailed off a bunch of coins; started a few auctions; sent coins to ANACS and Teletrade and visited a hole-in-the-wall coin shop I haven't been to in awhile.
While visiting with the shop keeper I asked to see his book of Morgans. As he was retrieving it he stated something along the lines, "I just added a bunch of dollars from my collection at home".

I looked at them all and was beholden to a dozen or so wondefully wholesome and lovely toned coins. There were two that were also PL or DMPL. When I asked about pricing I braced myself expecting the obvious multiple pricing due to the color and originality.
I was pleasantly surprised to see him reach for a gray sheet (goodness knows what year, let alone what month!) and quote a price of about $30. per coin. Needless to say, I bought them all.

Here's a couple of them (I accidently left the Macro off or something... sorry about the fuzzy pictures!):
I'll be sending these off to ANACS (my second trip of coins to them this week!) tomorrow morning.

Common date with GEM MS65 surfaces and PL, if not DMPL characteristics:

Neat bands of color over choice, MS64 surfaces. Lots of luster too:

Edited to add: Dang! They are much fuzzier when larger! Sorry. image

Thanks guys! I promise to show crisp, clear photos as soon as ANACS returns them (they're going out on a five day submittal). I knew the photos were a bit blurry, but was surprised as to the extent after they were posted.

(I am hoping for a 66 DMPL but will be happy with a 65 DMPL.)

Please post a better picture of the color on the 1884 so we can argue over whether its worth $30! If you bought all 12 Morgans, you must list the dates to get the precise number of YOU SUCKS you are due!

It's always nice when the dealer grabs the greysheet to price an AU58 coin and reads the grey sheet AU50 price authoratatively and says he'll let it go for "grey sheet."

Amazing how often that happens with the smaller dealers in areas where they do not specialize. Of course, I'm sure they bought it at the AU50 price as well.
    Go well.

Can you please make the pics a little more blurry? They're way too sharp and clear now to form any kind of opinion.

    Thanx
