Adrian -- not trying to be mean, but I would have to say that in more than 99% of your auctions you are probably a standup guy. (Being from Jersey you'll understand that reference) But as you can see, all it takes is the hint of impropriety in 1% of your auctions to cast a shadow across your otherwise stellar reputation. Why you didn't apply that very intense and immense intellect to such a rudimentary situation is beyond me. While I don't personally know you, I would think that you should have known better than to get caught hawking AT coins on Ebay as monster toners.

I actually think Adrian is a good guy. I actually like the fact that he will push the limits to see what kind of reaction he gets. That's why I've had so much fun with him tonight. I do agree with you that he pushed the envelope too far with the auctions. It's fun on the boards when he posts nudie pics and drags overly serious people into unwinnable arguments. However when other people's money is at stake, it's not quite so funny.

Adrian has been very straight with me.

We have done tens of thousands of dollars worth of coin deals. Have always been happy.

That being said, I am always very careful when buying from him as he has strong prices....but he also buys very strong...

Also to add... I think both coins are AT...and I know that Adrian has no problem with me saying that...because it is just an opinion.

BUT, to offer a counterarguement to my counterarguement, I believe that if you are a dealer in coins, you have an ethical responsibility to attempt to sell only coins that arent going to bury your clients, whether that is based on ultra high markup, OR a lack of knowledge about toning/doctoring etc...This is where I personally think that dealers need to be very careful and the line might be crossed in this case. TBT didnt cross that line as it was a dealer to dealer transaction and Adrian is a big boy...Adrian has yet to cross it in my opinion as the coin has not yet been sold. I personally would not feel comfortable selling that coin to my client, even if I did think that it was NT...because I am not at the point where I know for sure.

And for the last counter/counter/counter arguement, alot of the angry people on these threads need to realize that Adrian NEVER offers guarantees on things. He takes risks on stuff and sometimes loses, and he expects his clients to do the same with the coins he sells in many cases. He is not a hand holder. He made that VERY clear in the auction write up. He offered it as a gamble that he knows it is, and I am sure that if it somehow gets into a holder, he will buy it back.

I don't personally know Adrian either, but I 've had alot of fun with him on the OF and although I haven't seen anything proven here tonight, or last night in Braddicks post and I defended him there and from what I've seen tonoght I will defend him here until he can be proven beyond a doubt that he did anything wrong, or duped anyone...... I also said last night in Braddicks post that I thought alot of people were jumping the gun and should wait until Adrian and TBT were here to defend themselves.

On another note I hope that Adrian doesn't take any legal action against Braddick for posting something that he shouldn't have in the first place that got all of this crap started........

Just my humble opinion.

I stated that I have made no threats to Braddick. That he is a friend of mine. I've been posting to this board for quite a while now. I think I'm known to be a person who tells the truth, unless I'm joking around (Adrian and Anaconda are not conjoined twins, I have not had a sex change, I am not 90 years old, etc., )

I've never dealt with you (or commented on you) but I have watched MANY of your auctions for quite some time. Some nice stuff and some "less nice" stuff. But ya know what? You are just a coin guy like the rest of us and I don't see why people get picked apart so damn much around here.

I've had the pleasure of purchasing a raw coin from Adrian. It was exactly as described in his Ebay auction. I paid a small premium for it at the time, but it was worth what I paid. I had it slabbed, sold it a year later and realized a small profit. Thanks again Adrian!

No I have not.

I would think Anaconda's coin auctions have been a staple for window shoppers for a long time...turning people's toes on coins is a benefit to the hobby and all the full-timers involved with it.

I like to no reserve better coins on ebay at times and watch the chips fall where they fall. Coins purchased from Adrian more often exceded purchase price versus coins purchased from other dealers.

I never purchased a raw coin from Anaconda. Its a free country and if he wants to stick his toe in and feel the water on something, I don't think he deserves to hang. I wonder how many coins he list with little expectation that it would sell but for the enjoyment derived from stirring the pot

And what's your definition of "proven?" ANACs has already determined the coin was AT. Adrian doesn't submit coins for grading, so we'll never know what PCGS and NGC have to say. From my understanding Adrian's been dealing with toned material for a couple of years. Sorry I'll take the 20 years of ANACS grading experience over his.

No different if I had a 1st year lawyer tell me he knew more than Adrian about Litigation. It just isn't possible. There are no shortcuts for experience and wisdom. While Adrian might claim that ANACS/NGC/PCGS merely provide opinions, so do lawyers, nothing more, nothing less. Who's legal opinion would you trust more, a lawyer with 2 years experience of one with 20?

I have never heard of anaconda screwing someone in a coin deal. I have only heard good things about him from other coin dealers and collectors, in terms of business transactions.

However, I am still not happy with that bridge he sold me. I just went there the other day to set-up my toll booth just like anaconda told me to do. The police arrested me and said that The Golden Gate Bridge was owned by the GGBHTD and that my title wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. Anaconda, I want you to refund my $100!!

I did make some comments in some of threads, but I was more concerned about a coin of dubious background ending up in the hands of the uneducated than I was in slamming anyone on a personal level. I have not had any dealings with Anaconda as most of the items he sells are way beyond my price range, but I have monitored his listings on ebay for a long time, and I have liked the looks of most of his toners, which is why I was really shocked when I saw a coin that was described by an expert grading service as AT being sold by someone I thought was more reputable than that. I worked in sportscards for a while, so I know that in collectibles reputation means everything and that it doesn't take much to drive your customers out the door and to the shop down the street. Maybe Anaconda did know the history of the ANACS coin, or maybe he didn't. If he didn't, then fine. We can all come out of this a little bit wiser for having had the experience, but with his extensive history trading in toned coins, I don't think he should have taken a chance like this if he did know it was once graded as AT.

I'm a collector, not a prospector. Whereas I respect your knowledge, I can only say that;

the 'episode' involved here re-inforces a collectors DISTRUST of dealers.

you are, i assume, your own worst critic. my philosophy is;

if one does business in an 'ethical' manner, no problem.

if one does business, at the expense of others, then one is scum. in this an every human endeavor, whether it's 'feed' the family, or just plain 'greed'. i will not judge the matter. you can do that. same for the others involved in the 'episode'. i will continue to DISTRUST dealers.

As you may have inferred from my thread of yesterday ("AT, NT and Market Acceptable"), I have dealt with Adrian on previous occasions and never been screwed. In fact, quite the contrary: Adrian has provided courtesies beyond what any other dealer has offered me. Moreover, it's worth noting that 6 gem toned dollars in my A box of such coins were acquired from Adrian, and I've never regretted acquiring a single coin from him.

I have had a few dealings with ANACONDA..all went real well some pretty expensive coins some pretty cheap..he always has interesting "eye appeal" type coins..1st class all the way and with a little fun thru interesting listings and postings..this guy doesnt deserve the crap in my opinion..

I bought two coins from Adrian in separate deals about 3 years ago. Both transactions were great - I thought then (and still do now) that the coins were nice and that the prices were fair. Adrain was a stand up guy and couldn't have been easier or better to deal with.

So, my personal experience was excellent and no, I have not heard of Anaconda screwing someone on a coin deal.

I bought a very nice rainbow bag toned Morgan from Adrian at the Baltimore ANA Convention in 2003. He was a pleasure to deal with. That coin remains one of my favorite bag toned Morgans. I have not heard even a rumor of Adrian screwing someone over on a coin deal.
