on my scanner with my software here`s what i do; do a preview scan, then pull in the dotted lines left, right, top, bottom. until you have just the psa slab inside the dotted lines.
then set at 75 (or 72) dpi.
now do a final scan, all you should be scanning is the psa slab.
now you have to send your pic to your web host (whoever you use).
That card is from an interesting set I got recently. Its of top newsmakers of 1935 (printed in 1936). This Shirley Temple was a killer.
The set also has cards of Walt Disney, Joe Louis, Astaire and Rogers, the King and Queen of England, Huey Long and many notable British politicians that I have never heard of.
The most interesting card of the set is a card of the REAL Lawrence of Arabia, who died that year. I guess it was both his rookie card and his last card in one.
I saw Mars Attacks on HBO last week and was thinking that's a set I'd like to go after. Absolutely classic nostalgia piece.
I've been wanting to add to this set for a long time:
I've gotten about 10-15% into the 1977 Star Wars set (not yet registered), which I have been thinking for a long time could be a key modern non-sport registry set. Unfortunately, others moved a lot faster on it than me. I've got some other vintage cards, though, that I will post when I get scans.
BTW, yes, I faked the Bo slab and everything, but this card was really a strong 10 candidate that I was going to send in. That is, until I left it on the couch and my dog jumped up on it. But I still like it.
WANTED: 2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25 2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9 Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs
<< <i>BTW, yes, I faked the Bo slab and everything, but this card was really a strong 10 candidate >>
Good one Helio - Bo is a ten in anyones book! Here is a 1932 Olympic set produced in Germany - it has been in the album for over 60 yrs - if you look real close, you can see the card insert marks on the corners. This is the famous Jesse Owens - got a great card of der Fuhrer also.
Horrors of war set.......sadly one of my favorites is the card Titled "Rape of Nanking" I have a dozen or so of those cards. In average condition. vg/ex to a couple ex/mnt.
while going thru some things I found this:
1952 Bowman "SPACEMEN" rockets and jets
...............the place was infested with enormous fire beetles
from that set i want card 1 thru 4 i have 1, 2, and 4 need only 3 George. however the card shown above would make a nice companion for the aforemententioned ones.
seems like we aint gonna get our own forum and this thread will just have to do..........
hey steve, just got done checking out the 1962 mars attack set registry.
congrats on being #7. there are some big boys on that registry and being #7 is really saying something.
i`ve read that the 1938 "horrors of war" set is the non-sportscard holy grail set. but that registry has but 5 people on it (me being #5) but the mars attack registry has like 15 or so ? it seems really very popular. you know i like it. its in my top 3.
steve, there are no registrants that have any scans of this super set, are you ready to be the first ? your scans seem to be getting better. trust me, when someone goes to this set they always end up going to the one with the photos.
Horrors of war set being much older (pre war) prolly has somthing to do with the low registry number as compared to Mars Attacks. Mars Attacks seems to have grown in popularity the past few years as I have seen so many new names bidding on cards on ebay (not just the usual suspects ) Many who collect Mars Attacks are drawn to it for the same reasons they do a certain baseball set. They remmember it from their childhood and want to re collect the set again. I can clearly remm buying packs at the corner candy store well before I bought my first baseball card pak. If only I had the forsight to put a pack or a few wrappers away. I had no idea about sets at the time as i was only 7 or 8 years old when the were issued. I have only 2 specimans from those days in my collection both would not grade a 6 or better so they remain unslabbed.
as for the Horrors of War set it truly is an outstanding vintage set that in my opinion is worthy of its "holy grail status"
I was looking for my Star Trek cards and am clueless where they are - did not do the set tho. I do have a bunch of ice cream lids from 1952 - it includes a bunch of cowboys like the Duke, wild bill elliot who I wouldn't even know if it were not for the reference on the Cosby Show!
These lids have a protected paper wafer which unfortunately upon careful removal takes the good paper away, obviously from years of being stuck together.
Thanks again Lee. I will try to figure out this hosting thing before the end of the weekend.
The Laurel and Hardy is a nice card from a great set of 1934 Carreras Film Cards. The shape matched the shape of the bottom of the tobacco tin in which they were found.
This is a great set that includes the Marx Brothers, Al Jolson and other stars of the day. They have a writeup on the back and also have adhesive backs so that they could be put into a "stamp" album of sorts.
I remember when Lay's potato chips had that Star Wars Episode 1 promotion. Pulled an instant win card out the bag which I won a trading card. Surprise I kept it. #4 of 12 in the set.
Was trying to see if there were any more out there.
I looked too Steve and didn't see any. I did buy a PSA graded 1963 Beverly Hillbillies set from Bob's web site a few months ago though to upgrade my Hillbillies set.

<< <i> am a mental case right now....lol grrrrrrrrrrrr >>
I see you up on that building Steve...we're going to talk you down!
you have to crop your scan so that all that is being scanned is the card, not the whole scanner bed.
then use 75dpi for your final scan.

steve and mintstate, i`m sorry.
i went back and looked myself, i really thought they were there.
they had ungraded inventory, but no psa mars attacks.
call me nuts, just don`t call me OLD !!! ha ha
still, they had alot of stuff non-sport
see ya, your friend, lee
There is an 8oc at one of the eBay shops but there is no scan. The grade is not as important as the eye appeal for me. Thanks!
considered by some as a key card to the set.
this example though off centered was obtained through a trade with another registry member.
Scans galore ...
this one should crossover nicely.
1938 horrors of war #214
i`ve been picking a lot of raw ones also.
your friend, lee
do not attempt the crossover service
this card purchased in an SGC holder was resubmitted and recieved this grade:
your right,,,,,,, I`M GONNA CRACK MY FIRST SLAB !!!!
man, that wore me out !
steve, you get post 200 <<<<
