can we get a non-sportscard message board ?

hi all,

i`m just jumping into the non-sports registry (1938 gum, horrors of war set)

psa, you have ALOT of non-sports registrys, but you have no forum for these folks to have fellowship.

build one, they will come. seriously, look at your non-sports registry section.

its a great oppertunity for psa to fill a void, that they already created.

    I second this great idea.

I would love to see a non-sports message board to spread some knowledge about these cards. I'm working on an 1889 Kinney Bro's Leaders set to go with my 1933 Sky Birds and 1944 American Beauties sets already on the registry. There are several other sets that I'm contemplating getting into also and it would be great to have a forum here at CU to go toimage

Another vote for the non-sport message board. I don't collect them right now but have been thinking about trying a set or two. I do have some that I gathered for the past 20 years or so. I have a few T cards, 1959 Three Stooges, some "V" the TV series (plus an unopened case), and some 1933 Chicago Tribune Dick Tracy cards that I would like to get more information on. I am sure that a non-sport message board would be popular and informative.

    Lee,
Basically I wanted to know if I called them correctly as 1933 (or 1935) Chicago Tribune cards, how they were issued, how many in the set, how scarce they are and approx. value. I have been to a lot of card shows over the past 20 years and have never seen these before. Maybe I should have looked for a non-sport card show somewhere. Thanks for any help.

The Registry forum is just that, a Registry forum, sportscards or not. But I would be in favor of a non-sports forum, whether it's targeted to registry topics or not.

I would post. I am looking into these non sports cards as well - nice break from the norm.

Lee, I have found that there is some pretty good advice from a lot of the posters on this thread, as well as murcerfan, when it come to answering non-sports card questions.

    hey bob, (milbroco)

i`ve found what your looking for,

    NAME; cartoon comics.

there are eight characters, each with a subset consisting of one portrait and seven action story cards.
all the cards except joe palooka carry a "chicago tribune" credit line; all cards are dated 1935 and each one bears the signature of the artist.

rouletted edges indicate this series was issued in strips. this would be a very difficult set to complete

dick tracy; $30.00 in ex. condition terry & the pirates; $20.00 in ex. cond.

the prices listed are from 1993. so in my opinion, you could add between $10 - $25 to those listed

these cards are an earlier version of the 1936 cartoon adventures. the manufacture of these two sets is unknown even today.

    anything else ?

    No Magic MTG cards though!

Amongst other reasons, I used to collect them back in 93-94.... It's too painful to think what they would be worth now if I had kept them...

lets just say my 1976 topps set would be real easy to complete.......

    hi all,

as far as just doing a thread, it really does not allow for a variaty of subjects to be viewed or answered to.

if you step away for a day or possibly a few hours the thread may have changed around 4 or 5 times, and your question was never
answered and is now old news, sorry.

one single thread is to dynamic, it changes every time someone else throws out another subject.

would it be better than what psa offers, of course

but a forum is what is needed, many subjects and many threads at one time.

carol, (board moderator) are you out there ???? carol, what are the chances ???

Sounds like a good idea. I'd post on them every now and then.

They certainly wouldn't be any less active than the poor autograph forums. That's a waste land over there!

PS - Hey Stone .... the Gomer set is one of the ones I'm thinking of grading. Are you building that one too?

    Mike
Mine is complete but not worth grading - it is hard to find cards centered - there used to be a company with the name Merchant cards in tuff stuff or scd who I got non-sports stuff from in the 90's. I also used to go to a few shows that had some non-sport vendors who had a lot of cool stuff at a good price. I completed this set from 88T Dinosaur Attacks - kind of like the Mars Attacks but very cheap.

Glad you asked. I own two Sport Americana cards loaded with info. The Sport American Price Guide to Non-Sports Cards (1930-1960) by Christopher Benjamin and Dennis Eckes and the Sport Americana Price Guide to the Non-Sports Cards by Christopher Benjamin. The second one has no dates in the title but covers cards from 1961-the Deset Storm cards of 1991.

The first came out in 1991 and the other in '92, so the values are way out of whack. Despite that, the info included in the books are hard to get elsewhere. The books show sample cards, wrappers, some display boxes and even a few items from store displays. The Horrors of War set gets a lot of attention, and even shows a photo of the box that held a "complete" set (1-240, issued before the final series) that could be purchased in the mail for ONE DOLLAR (!), as well as a copy of the ad for the set in Life magazine.

They should be relatively easy to get on Amazon or eBay.

    Mike,
Yes it's complete, with a GPA of 8.13.
I also have complete graded Munsters, "59" Stooges, Hogan's Heroes, Beverly Hillbillies, Mars Attacks, and a few other partial sets like Lost In Space and Brady Bunch. I sold off all of my sports cards and collect non-sports only now.

    hi all,

looking through the psa non-sports registry its amazing how almost nobody has put up scans of their collections.

it should be a rule that if you have the #1 set at the end of the psa registry year, you have to post scans of at least 1/3 of your set.

will never happen, but would be nice.

Yeah, this set is terrible when it comes to centering. I didn't realize that Peter had his set for sale. I've made a few Brady Bunch trades with him.

<< <i>do you have the complete set graded? >>

I have three or four complete sets, and am working to get one complete graded (7 or better). My set is "Here's the story". I've got ~25 BB cards at PSA right now. This won't complete the set, but will get me closer.
