I just had to post my disgust. This really stinks. I didn't realize this was a paid endorsement. I can't believe the price of the endorsement went up so much in such a short period of time.

I'm glad that Andy did it, if that's what it takes to stop impuning reputable dealers, for made up reasons, on an internet forum that thousands of people read. The kind of statements you made regarding DLRC's "agenda" have the potential to unjustly damage someone's reputation and business, and are irresponsible. Ken,
You have posted what I was thinking. I am not a dealer, I am not a big time collector, and, I care more about the coin than the slab (but I do recognize there is a preference in some slabs, especially for certain series).
All I see in this thread is people posting to hear themselves talk (with very few exceptions), a lot of posturing for some reason ("listen to me...I will babble so much that you need to know that I know my stuff"), and a lot o people with an axe to grind.
I sometimes venture "across the street" but I find that the majority of posting there is to bash this board, PCGS, certain posters here, etc. I don't see the bashing here against NGC board members that I see from there. But, I can see a lot of that coming out here.
I guess people need to stick their noses in areas that don't really matter. I think this whole thing is interesting, but I don't see how it impacts me, as a collector. I guess a lot of people don't have enough to do in their real lives....or if their real life is all about coins anyway, then they want to stick their noses into other people's business?

I agree with those statements. I mean I thought this was about coins too, not a mosh pit of this coin is better then that because of obscure holder details. Hey that's what they need here! A forum for us old grumps!
I'm knew to the business - and truthfully, I'm disappointed to learn that it's a paid sponsorship. I considered joining ANA so I could submit coins to NGC but when the time came for a decision I join PCGS. Why? Because their reputation and standards excede anyone in the business, even those organizations that have been around longer - and for the most part their coins, in the same grade, look better. I don't care who endorses who, I think most of, even us new to the business realize who the players are!!
Sorry David, PCGS deserved it - and I personally think PCGS deserve ANA recognition. But. perhaps that's why I'm not a member of ANA today... or PNG - whoever they are....

Though it DOESN'T seem to bother you that the CU Moderator chose to EDIT both of John Feigenbaum's posts to this thread. Leave a BAD TASTE in the mouth of any other collectors here?
i think i know why david-lawrence is so high on ngc. they use ncs A LOT.
if you watch certain coins on their website, you'll seem them disappear, only to reappear a month later, only looking, oh i dunno, a lot CLEANER than before.
All right Karl, you have me interested. I am a happy customer of DLRC, I have enjoyed the look of every piece I have bought from them with the exception of one Morgan. This also includes a coin that is/was listed as a 3 star coin which you so vehemently suggested do not exist, and until this thread, has been your only complaint about DLRC. Though I ingnored those past comments as being very trivial and minor, since I am buying a COIN, not a STICKER by DLRC that has 4 or 5 stars on it. However these allegations are quite a bit differant. When they relisted the coin did it say it was conserved by NCS. More information is would definitly be welcome, and I think necassary in order for some of us to actually believe it..
hey captain-ron, actually i can recall seeing exactly ONE "3-star" coin in their ads - you must of bought it! but honestly, HOW MANY "3-star coins" can you count in, let's say, the last 10 issues of coinworld?
let me make a deal w/ you & put the ball back in your court. YOU call dlrc & politely ask them, "do you ever send coins to ncs, or do you sell coins that you know have been sent to ncs". if they're honest, they'll answer yes. then ask them, "do you describe the coins as being curated". knowing your a happy customer, they should answer you honestly.
let me know their answer via pm. if they don't answer your questions honestly, then i will prove to you that they have done this. & if i can't prove it to you, i'll post a public apology to dlrc & yourself here on this forum.
warning: i have examples of BEFORE NCS & AFTER NCS pictures of specific coins that have appeared on their website, so it'd be in their best interests to answer you honestly.
1 more thing, if they admit to you that they've ncs-ed coins, i will NOT make it a big deal nor initiate any threads or posts or trash dlrc about it. to each his own.
btw, the 4-star thing is NOT my only complaint about dlrc, you must of missed my point. my point is, they will tell you your coin's an average or ugly coin when they buy it, but when it appears in their ads, it's suddenly a 4 or 5 star coin. their opinion of the coin is different when they buy it vs. when they sell it.
Karl, Yes I guess I did miss or incorrectly percieved what your original beef was Sorry bout that. Though I have sold to DLRC and not had this problem myself, I have to honestly say that I have sold them very few coins, I guess I have just been lucky.
Karl, you said you would put the ball back in my court, and that I should call them up and ask, then to report to you via PM what they said. I honestly think this is unfair request, you are forcing me to help you fight your battle. If the say yes, they do sell conserved coins, then how does this help everyone by just letting it go away, with no posts ever being brought up about it, and which coins are in question. If they say no, then you will show the proof anyways. Why play the games, just show the coins in question that you belief/know that DLRC sent to NCS to have conserved. I think by you doing this would be appreciated by many, including myself.
I'm sorry I will not make that call for you, however I hope that you will still show the proof. Thanks Ron
Most dealers sell "conserved" coins, whether they have knowledge of it (having had them conserved, themselves) or not (having bought and sold the coins, not even knowing they have been "conserved"). By the way, I include "dipping" in my definition of "conserved".
Personally, while I understand the good intentions, I think the idea of labeling "conserved" coins as such is not a good one - many times people have no way of knowing whether a coin has been conserved or not and any new system aimed at recognizing "conserved" coins could be as or more misleading than not labeling them at all.
Many "conserved" coins are undetectable and look perfectly fine/original, while many others appear nasty/wholly unoriginal.
Lastly, I think that DLRC has been treated extremely harshly AND unfairly in this thread.
<< <i>If the say yes, they do sell conserved coins, then how does this help everyone by just letting it go away >>
because i'm not claiming that selling conserved coins is a PROBLEM. i understood from your post that you don't believe me when i say dlrc uses ncs. i'm giving you a chance to find out the most direct, honest, open way, which would be simply to ask them.
if they deny it, then i can prove to you that they do by giving you examples they CURRENTLY HAVE FOR SALE. but it's unfair to dlrc not to give them a chance to answer your question honestly 1st.
again, i'm not trying to say using ncs is good or bad, here's what i'm saying:
1 feigenbaum is a png dealer 2 png now has ngc as it's official grader 3 dlrc uses ncs 4 so my assertion is that at least part of the reason dlrc endorses ngc as the png's official grader is because dlrc uses ncs
<< <i>so my assertion is that at least part of the reason dlrc endorses ngc as the png's official grader is because dlrc uses ncs >>
Karl, your logic truly escapes me here.
First - PNG (not DLRC, which is merely a member of PNG) awarded the endorsement to NGC.
Second - as has been reported, NGC bid more for that endorsement than PCGS did - most seem to think THAT is the reason that the PNG awarded it to them.
Third and PLEASE think about this before you go into automatic pilot and conveniently ignore it - if DLRC uses NCS now, weren't they doing so a few days ago and before that, when PCGS (not NGC) was the official grader of the PNG? Under your logic, DLRC is endorsing NGC partly because of NCS, when they were actually endorsing PCGS!
It is time for me to go to work, so I wont be able to respond to your anticipated arguments as soon as I'd like.
no no no, coinguy1, i'm not saying the awarding of ngc has anything to do w/ ncs. i'm suggesting that of ALL the png dealers on the pcgs forum, dlrc is the 1 that saw fit to jump on the forum & defend the png & png's choice of ngc. he had no need or reason to do so.
is it possible they have an interest in pushing/supporting ngc because they themselves use ncs?

I know this PNG thing will blow over eventually. Then we`ll get back to why where here in the first place and that is about collecting coins and sharing what we know and our enthusiasm for the hobby.

<< <i>Puff, no problem and when I initially brought this up I really didn't have you in mind. I've brought this up before but I'm a nobody on here and I don't just buy PCGS coins either.
<< <i>Naw Bear ain't no grump and doesn't pass the criteria to be classified as such. Now YOU Puff, you're getting there and might end up being in the "Old grumpy collectors club." I'll need to check with the other grumps at our next meeting. >>
Hey that's what they need here! A forum for us old grumps!
<< <i>What's this? Do we have a potential new member? >>
At 3:00 am in the morning I'm game for just about anything!
Sorry David, PCGS deserved it - and I personally think PCGS deserve ANA recognition. But. perhaps that's why I'm not a member of ANA today... or PNG - whoever they are....
<< <i>I expected better from Lawrence, but I guess when you bread is being buttered
on both sides by PNG and NGC , you say what the Heffe(s) want to hear. We dont screw around with the
NGC Forum and we dont tolerate people coming over here to screw around with us. >>
Though it DOESN'T seem to bother you that the CU Moderator chose to EDIT both of John Feigenbaum's posts to this thread. Leave a BAD TASTE in the mouth of any other collectors here?
if you watch certain coins on their website, you'll seem them disappear, only to reappear a month later, only looking, oh i dunno, a lot CLEANER than before.
yes, i can prove this.

let me make a deal w/ you & put the ball back in your court.

Let's see some pics!
Thanks Ron
1 feigenbaum is a png dealer
2 png now has ngc as it's official grader
3 dlrc uses ncs
4 so my assertion is that at least part of the reason dlrc endorses ngc as the png's official grader is because dlrc uses ncs

It is time for me to go to work, so I wont be able to respond to your anticipated arguments as soon as I'd like.
is it possible they have an interest in pushing/supporting ngc because they themselves use ncs?
that's what i'm saying.

of PNG? There seems more to this situation then surface appearences.Perhaps
skullduggery , perhaps not. In any event ,PCGS is moving in the right direction as
a company and this dissapointment is not even a bump in the road for them.
